I paid $160 for bustle, hem, adding in cups, and having the dress taken in.  I also had it done in a very small town, though!

I’m having my alterations done at a store called Alterations Express, they do all types of alterations, not just bridal gowns.. and I believe they are all around the country. I was quoted $320 (that was with a 10% discount) and I’m getting my dress hemmed (4 layers of tulle under the top layer of satin), a bustle put in, cups sewn in & taken in around the chest/midsection.

I paid $175 for a hem, the hip let out, a bustle and cups.  I live a little over an hour north of NYC.

My salon charged a flat rate of $340. It doesn’t cover bustling ($10 a point) and cups.

I paid 37.45 for a 3 point bustle and my afterparty dress sleeves shortened and taken in at the top. I got very lucky my dress fit me from the start!

My sweet little alterations lady (who works wonders) only charged my 85$ for taking it in, shortening it, and adding a simple bustle.

I am still in shock that shes only charging me that much.

EDIT:  I would like to add that shes had my dress since October and actually promised it to be finished at Thanksgiving, then again by Christmas… and then again by this coming Sunday… So maybe thats a reason why I am getting it cheap.

I bought my dress at David’s Bridal and had the alterations done there. The dress was about 3 sizes too big (it was the LAST dress they had of a discontinued design!) and has a lot of detail on the top. To take it in, rework the beading and lace, and add a button-up bustle, it cost me about $370

I’m also in NYC and I’ve called around – best I’ve heard so far is in the $300 range, and I’m taking it somewhere that quoted me $400 bc they have good reviews.  All I need done is hem, bustle, and sides taken in around the bust.  INSANITY.  I mean really.

I forgot to say that the dress already fits me like a freaking glove, which is the worst part!  Haha.

I’ve been told a typical hem is around $200, bustle $75 and taking it in can vary around $100?Most  places I shopped said total is usually between $300-500 and often lower. They just said the higher number to prepare people!
