Finally, I can contribute a recommendation rather than asking for help!! I know there are a number of Chicago brides, so hopefully this will help someone out.
I just picked up my dress from my tailor and I wanted to recommend her to everyone in Chicago. She was great, and her rates are the best I found anywhere. Her business is a window treatment company, but she also does clothing alterations. I found her on Yelp, as she had made someone’s bridesmaid dresses for their wedding and was highly recommended.
My dress needed to be taken in at the bodice and upper waist (some beading taken off and put back on), bra cups sewn in, the train cut off, and hemmed. Nothing too drastic, but it has pickups, and she spent a lot of time sitting at my feet pinning and re-pinning them till it looked right. I also had a shorter, simpler dress hemmed and re-zippered (what I will probably change into for dancing).
I met with her initially before I ordered the dress to get measured and to talk about cost. When the dress came in, I had a consultation meeting with her, and then about 3 fittings. The time between fittings was always less than a week – she’s very quick!
All of that cost only $221. Just the work on my wedding dress (and not the reception dress) was about $180! Amazing. Other people quoted me as high as $350, almost as much as my dress cost… And she did a great job. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.
