im using someone down in bowling green ohio, just south of toledo, but im further south than you are.

I would look up reviews online, …actually let me see if I can find the one i was going to use, I think she was north of detroit and had really good reviews, one sec.

Jeez, 3 months for alterations?! That seems like a bit much.

Sorry, I don’t have any recommendations. I’m still looking for alterations near A2 as well.

When I was a bridesmaiid, I went to Maria’s on E. Huron, across from the Performance Network.  I lost about 15 lbs over two months, so i had multiple re-fittings, and she charged me like $80.  I’m planning to see if she can do my dress.  I found her based on a referral from a co-worker.

I’ve recently discovered Quality Alterations on Washtenaw Ave: http://qualityalterationsannarbor.com/ . She has great reviews on yelp etc! I took a few regular clothes items there this weekend just to check it out before I take my gown there. The owner seemed really attentive and friendly. While I was there, I noticed she was very accomodating to another customer who came in with a super-short notice request. I have high hopes!

ETA: Not sure what turnaround time she quotes for wedding dresses. I didn’t ask.

@aliciapdx:  First off, congratulations on your pregnancy! How exciting! As for the alterations, the price sounds fair to me. Please report back after you pick up your gown! How many fittings did you go through?

I have since asked Quality alterations and she said I can make an appointment in July for my Spetember wedding. She said I have plenty of time, and that they are currently working on June dresses mostly. Not sure if I’ll go with her or also try Nonpareil which is closer to where I live.

Bummer that the service wasn’t stellar for that amount of money. Super excited for you though! Your wedding is SO SOON! ; )

@aliciapdx:  Oh. my. GOSH! I would have never expected that either (dirty dress from their floors)! That is ridiculous. But you’re doing the right thing by not getting worked up about it now. I’m sure the dress will get more marks within the first 5 minutes of walking around in it on the wedding day. No excuse for non-pareil, but

You know, in the meantime I called her up and inquired about alterations for my dress. My wedding is exactly 3 months and 1 week away. She said I had tons of time and to come in without an appointment around 6 weeks before the wedding…? She was also very short with me on the phone, almost sounded annoyed, and made me feel like I’m stupid. UGH! So I definitely hear you on the no chit-chat and her customer service. I was thinking about going to her, because it sounded like she was the master when it came to alterations and dressmaking and I’m already so nervous about alterations that I wanted to make sure I go to the very best! Not sure I want to deal with her now though! The owner of Quality alterations is very nice, so maybe I should stick with her.

I’m sorry you had this bad experience with her. Are you happy with her workmanship though?

If we don’t see you here before, have a wonderful wedding day! Try to enjoy every second! 🙂

@aliciapdx:  I don’t think it’s odd. I’m giving you money when I could easily take it elsewhere. Plus, this is an emotional time for us! It’s our WEDDING and our WEDDING DRESS, probably the most expensive piece of clothing we every purchased. Make it a somewhat pleasant experience to put our trust in you! I’m very happy to hear that you are pleased with her work though. Hope everything goes as planned for you in the next week!
