- Wedding: December 2014
My wedding is in two weeks on 12/13/14. I live in Manhattan and my friend recommended someone who was supposedly a great seamstress, but the alternations have become a nightmare. I bought a Pronovias strapless dress in size 10 and I’m a size 4-6 so it needed to be taken in.
The seamstress is an older lady who lives about one hour and half from where I live. I have traveled there four times for different fittings and she just can’t seem to get anything right. She confessed tonight that she is confused about my dress and that she cannot guarantee that it will work out in the end. Every time I come for a fitting different parts of the lace all over the dress are unattached and the dress alternates between being so tight that I can’t even fit in it to being loose. She claims there is a problem with the bust part: as you can see in the pictures the back is lower in height than the front of the dress (these pictures are of a brand new dress, not my actual dress which has been taken apart). Thus, she says, she can’t really tighten the bust area enough. Has anyone dealt with this issue on a strapless dress?
I finally asked her tonight to give me my dress back as is with beads, boning elements and strips of lace in a plastic bag. I need to find an amazing alterations person in NYC that could help me in less than two weeks.
I realize that this is a challenge. I am even considering buying a new dress, but I would still need to find someone to fix it.
Any suggestions are welcome!!!
