I’d wait…I bought my dress almost a year ago, and went for my first fitting yesterday.  The seamstress is having to do a ton of alterations because I lost so much weight.  I wasn’t even trying to loose weight, but did because I’ve been soooo stressed out…you never know what could happen.  While I was in there, there was another girl who was getting her dress re-altered because she got pregnant. If the only reason you’d do it now is just to get it over with, I’d definitely wait. Its better to get it done right than to get it done early (at least in my opinion).

I got my dress in Nov 07 for my Sept 08 wedding.  I just went by the recommendation of the alterations dept and made an appointment for my first fitting in July 08.  That was plenty of time to get them done.

Oh- another reason to wait- to have the alterations done you need to have your undergarments and shoes!  Especially with the shoes- you don’t want to have to rush to find them.  If you wait- you’ll have more time to shop around.

Hey lady,

Yeah, I bought my dress in July 08 for the May 09 wedding. πŸ™‚ I took it to the seamstress three weeks ago or so after I bought the undergarments. That’s when we realized my shoes were too tall and the dress couldn’t be let out (le sigh).

Anyways, yeah, I’d agree and say wait until July or so. That way you have plenty of time to make adjustments if needed.

And if your wedding dress is just sitting there, all nice and fitted, you’ll want to just sit and watch TV in it. Just for the heck of it.

I would absolutely wait, unless you have a reason for wanting to have the dress altered now (other than excitement!).

There are tons of good "fitness" boards and posts around here if you’re looking for tips or inspiration! πŸ™‚ I’ve found the hive (and specifically Miss Meatball’s recipes) invaluable as I work on my body!! πŸ™‚
