Hi everyone! I purchased my Jim Hjelm gown at Kleinfeld & it was an off the rack dress, so they will not do my alterations. I am new to the Boston area & was hoping that any of you past, present & future brides out there could recommend your trusted alteration / seamstress place for me! I live right outside of Boston, work west of Boston, and getting married in Newport, RI. So I am willing to travel for good service, as I want my dress to be handled with care : ) Thank you so much for your recommendations in advance!!!

@NewportBride052413: I’d try Seams Couture! I have friends who’ve worked with them who liked them http://www.seamstheshop.com/

Hi! This might be a little late… how west of Boston are you? I’m in Cambridge, and there’s a great independent seamstress here – Beatrice at Queen Dressmakers – who charges pretty reasonable prices and does good, quick work. I got my dress altered there and it’s taken only three weeks for her to finish the alterations. I didn’t have too much work done though, and if you have a lot of work that needs to be done, she might not take you, but it’s worth a try. It’s called Queen Dressmakers. She has very high Yelp reviews!
Alternatively there’s a popular place on Newbury street that specializes in bridal alterations, Best Fit. You can see reviews on Yelp, but they’re pretty polarized: people either seem to love them or hate them.

I highly recommend Chris O’Hare in Quincy. She’s great and super affordable. She lives right off the expressway too.

Hi @NewportBride052413: I was interested to find out who you ended up going with for your alterations. I purchased my dress in Los Angeles with my sister and mom, but live in Boston. My dress just came in and I’m looking for a trusty seamstress 🙂 I have a lot of alterations to do since it’s a little too big. Would you mind letting me know where you ended up going and your experience?
(I’m also getting married in Newport this summer!)

I’ve had Doris Couture Design highly recommended to me. She’s in Needham. One of my friends had her dress altered there, and it came out really well.

Anahit Bridal is who the VOWS “I Found the Gown” store use so I am going to try to bring my Kleinfeld’s dress to her since she is used to the designer gowns. She is in Newton.

Best Fit on Newbury Street in Boston tailored my vintage lace wedding dress. They did an amazing, amazing job.
