Looking for other people’s experiences with dress alterations, to know if this is standard or not.
I bought a size 8 sample dress, I’m a size 2. I had my first fitting last week. I was excited to finally not be swimming in the dress, but then noticed that the waist was a little too big, the hips were a little too small, and the neckline (which was converted to a sweetheart) was uneven.
The seamstress explained that it usually took a couple of gos to get it right, and that this would especially be the case for me, as they were taking it in quite a bit. She made an appointment for me to come in after the next round of alterations and the dry cleaning is done (as it’s a sample).
There’s Christmas in between, and they allow up to 2 weeks for dry cleaning, so my second fitting is only 2 weeks before my wedding. Given the fact that they haven’t done a great job of the alterations so far, I don’t feel confident leaving it so late.
I called today to ask them if they could just call me in when the alterations are done, and not wait till the dress has been dry cleaned. The store manager said the 2nd fitting is usually done 2 weeks before the wedding to allow for the most perfect fit, especially with Christmas in between, in case I decided to get very “festive” lol.
He tried to reassure me by saying they had never missed a wedding, but I’m more concerned about the dress not fitting me right than not having any dress at all. He promised to check with the seamstress to see if they could bring the date forward. When they called back I missed the call so I have to wait till tomorrow.
I’m just wondering if this sounds standard and I should calm down, or if 2 weeks before the wedding is leaving it way too late?
And no, there are no pics, boutiques here don’t allow photos 🙁
