I need some advice about my dress – I have a Pronovias that I got from Once Wed for my May 2010 wedding, and it’s now sitting in its big beautiful box in my mom’s house. I found a seamstress that is supposed to be the best in Boston, and she has great recommendations. But when should I take my dress in for my first fitting? Six months before the wedding?

Wow, I think that’s way too soon. You are going to end up fluxuating in weight and going through six rounds of alterations. I personally put it off to the last minute.

Typically it’s two months for the first fitting, 4-6 weeks for the 2nd and a few days before for the third and final fitting. My first fitting is scheduled for two weeks from now, and we are 56 days from the wedding now – so it will be at the 6 week mark. I am using a lady down in RI. Hope This Helps.

I always thought it was 6 months too. I am also a May 2010 bride and have recently bought my dress. The bridal shop I bought it from told me that I would need alterations because it was too big and that I should wait 6 months before my wedding date. But it’s really up to you.

my dress came in 2.5 months before the wedding. my first fitting was 1.5 months before the wedding, 2nd fitting will be ~ 1 month before, final fitting will be the week before. i’ve heard horror stories about people losing / gaining weight in the last 2 wks before the wedding b/c of stress so i’d suggest pacing yourself to make that last fitting as late as possible.

I did my first fitting almost a month before the wedding. I had to go back for additional alterations because of weight fluctuations, but luckily got a spectacular fit just 2 days before I left for the wedding!
