I purchased Melina by WToo a few months back. My dress came in and I’m not loving it as much as I was before. I was wondering if you all think it’d be possible to alter it to be more of a modified a-line. I’m hoping to have it fitted through the torso and hips and flare out toward the bottom. I want the back of it full, so I’m not sure if they take it in down the sides or not.
I’m just not crazy about how the front of the skirt hangs below the belt. I’m drowning in skirt. Let me know what you all think! 🙂

So you probably don’t want to hear this, but I love that dress on you and it doesn’t look like you’re drowning at all.

As far as I know, they can’t modify it that much. I tried on a few dresses like that and they made me look pregnant, so I had to go with a different style all together.

It should be possible to alter the gown, but because there is so much fabric in the back (which I think is gorgeous, btw!), the gown very well may need to be re-cut.
Taking something like that in at the sides will certainly alter the fit, but it may not be a GOOD fit, since there is just a lot of fabric in the back. An A-line cut will necessitate getting rid of a lot of that extra.
Depending on your dress’ cost, you may want to simply find someone to sell it to and start over, since my honest opinion as someone who has been sewing for 10 years is that the bottom will need to be detached and redone.
Of course, I am not a professional seamstress – you should really go speak to someone who does those kinds of alterations on a regular basis.
