I’m not so sure about the garter, but at a friend’s wedding, they had a married couples dance. They dismissed them off of the floor by how long they had been married. When the longest married couple was left, the bride gave her bouquet to them. I liked that! I’m not a big fan of the bouquet or garter toss…I hated having to stand for the bouquet.

I hate the tradition. I don’t find it fun or entertaining. Like @keepsmiling19 mentioned, we’re doing an “anniversary dance”. The couple married longest will get a restaurant gift certificate.

I am doing it but with a twist. My fiance’s mom passed away a few months ago so I am dedicating my real bouquet with her (going to the cemetery the next day). So in replacement of my bouquet, I will be tossing a bouquet made out of dollar bills- this way any woman can participate and whoever catches it, keeps it. Same thing with the gartier, we are going to attach a $20, and allow all men to participate.

We have chosen to do the traditional garter and bouquet toss but with a twist: The toss bouquet will be made of 20 $1 bills and the garter will have a $20 bill on it. We will have all the women at the wedding come up for the bouquet and all the men come up for the garter toss….it doesnt matter if your single or not…..we wont everyone to have fun…..we are super excited about it. After the toss they will just get their picture taken together and that is it!

We are also doing an anniversary dance too. Our wedding day is the same as a family friends anniversary and they will be there!

After attending a wedding just yesterday where I was called out, over the microphone, to get my ass up front to catch the bouquet (and yeah, I’m engaged, so..), then had to stand up front all awkward-like while the bride made demands for other women to join, my feelings on axing the whole entire event were validated.  I’m not having any tosses what so ever, and I’m not wearing a garter.  I like the idea of giving the bouquet to the longest married couple, but honestly I’d just consider passing on the whole experience.

The last wedding I went to skipped it. And you know what? Nobody noticed. I didnt realize it until we went to dinner after she got back from her honeymoon. so if you are really opposed to the ideas of it, just dont do it 🙂

My mother got remarried when my sister and I were teenagers. She was the one who caught the bridal bouquet (at 14!)  and the guy who caught the garter was someone random that was a date of a friend of the family. Creepy enough that some 30 something guy was happy to slide a garter on my sisters leg. Creepier when a couple years later we heard he had been convicted of raping and murdering a woman.  I’m going without a boquet and garter toss.   I’m thinking of handing smaller bouquets to my mom and fmil to honor them both.

“Its time to see who’s going home alone tonight!!” God I hate the Garter and Bouquet Toss! lol! Fiance REALLY wants to do the garter toss while im thinking “Ok who must I pay off to catch the dam thing so I dont get embarrassed when that thing flys through the air and the crowd of single men separate like the F’ing Red Sea!”

We dont even have that many SINGLE friends/family anyways! I love the idea of the Anniversary dance!!
