@sweettealove:  If you have your heart set on a diamond, you’re probably going to be disappointed with a moissanite. The rainbows it throws are so different. Maybe you can look into Asha or WinkCZ, they look a lot more diamond like.

As someone already mentioned, authentic lab created diamonds are just as expensive as natural diamonds.

@sweettealove:  Great question.  Us Moissy bees love it because it sparkles way more than a diamond.  That’s just the nature of a Moissy, so if you’re truly looking for a less-expensive diamond look-alike, Moissy might not be right for you.  I personally would not look at a clear stone and really know the difference, and I think the general population wouldn’t either.  The bee gives you a false idea of how much the average person knows/cares about all this stuff.  Most people don’t know or care at all!  Just imo.

But back to the difference between Classic, FB, and Amora.  A 1ct round Classic is going to cost you $275.  You’ll pay an extra $125 on top of that for FB or an extra $180 on top of that for Amora.  So $275 vs. $400 vs. $455.  If you want top of the line Moissy, definitely get Amora.

In April, C&C figured out a way to make the rough organically whiter.  It’s a little complicated, but all that means is that FB is now untreated.

@sweettealove:  @PracticalBride is right, I think you would be happier with a simulant than a Moissanite until you are ready to upgrade…

@sweettealove:  I know, its too bad we can’t check it out in person. My Fiance is reluctant to consider it if we can’t see it in person though we can always order the stones though it will be more of PITA to do that, sent it back, etc.

@sweettealove:  Don’t worry!  I’m about to turn 26 and have been with my SO for 7 and a half years.  I put in my time… LOTS of it!!  I felt like I deserved a big diamond too, and so did he.  We were both ready to pay $8K for the ring plus another 1-2K for the wedding band…. until I saw a moissy in person.  We literally saved THOUSANDS.  My friends know I got a moissy, but my family is old-school traditional and when I brought up the idea of moissy to my mom she wasn’t havin it.  So my family thinks I walk around with 2.17 ctw of bling on my finger… my grandpa thinks my ring cost the price of a car… no one in my family can tell that it’s not a diamond (which I think is HILARIOUS because they are the ones that are all like “you better have a diamond!”)

Here is a picture ๐Ÿ™‚  Mine has a 1.4 ct cushion cut center that has a Forever Brilliant enhancement.  It’s from moissaniteco.com style number ENG225.  Most of their settings come from Unique Settings of New York and they are also willing to work on custom designs – Hope that helps!  (Oh yeah, this was taken in natural lighting with NO flash)

@sweettealove:  Yes we have very similar tastes!  I was debating between that one and this one (they are both Tiffany replicas).  This one went up on the sale portion of the website and it was too good to pass it up, so we went for it!  I know there are several ladies on here that have eng163b and have posted pics.  It’s gorggggeous

By The Way here is an example of the rainbow – it’s REALLY rainbowy and very unlike a diamond.  I’m going to try and upload a video for you to see.  You might not like a moissanite if you have a diamond in mind.

@sweettealove: Long but bear with me, but I can save you some research.

Both moissanite & cz are diamond simulants.. A diamond is a natural gemstone, each one of a kind  formed billions of years below the earth. Neither CZ or Moissanite are gemstones, but they sparkle beautifully. They are both man made products mass produced in a factory.

All moissanite & CZ will “pass” as a diamond to the average person especially if they’re in an engagement type setting on one’s left hand and are not so big as to be unbelievable.Wink

Moissanite differs from CZ in that it is more durable, has more color, and is doubly refractive. CZ has  a tendency to cloud and scratch over time but has the ability to more accurately mimic a D colorless flawless diamond’s scintillation.

Moissanite’s marketing strategies have been phenomenal. Due to that, you’ll find a bunch of misinformation on the bee about it.  bottom line is, both moissanite and cz are a bunch of bling for the buck. (say that fast 5 times ha ha!) After all, what’s not to love about a sparkly much cheaper man-made substitute to expensive high quality, ethical diamonds?

At this point in time, moissanite is quite a bit more expensive than CZ.  There is a patent on moissanite in effect until 2015 which limits the production to the CREE factory in NC (ie C&C). CZ was pricey initially back in the day also but the price came down as more and more came on the market. It is believed the price of moissanite will substantially drop as cz’s did, once the patent expires in 2015 and there is a surfeit of moissanite on the market.

The perception here  at the Bee of best to worst (the simulant hierachy if you will!) is as follows:  Amora moissanite, Forever Brilliant moissanite, unenhanced moissanite, Asha CZ, plain CZ  They are priced accordingly. But all still a fraction of the cost of a high quality ethically sourced diamond.

You can buy a moissanite ring in a gold setting on Shopnbc for $450, Moissanite.co, Jtv.com has a bunch as well some beginning at less than $90 (silver), ebay is loaded with them too. CZ rings are even less.

Hope this was helpful to you. Good luck and congrats on your engagement! Happy shopping! Don’t forget to post a pic when you choose!Smile

@sweettealove:  Whatever you decide on is your personal choice.  I like the fact that there are many options out there for the many budgets and personal beliefs we have ๐Ÿ™‚  I like knowing that although there are ethically sourced diamonds, my moissanite was made by someone with health insurance benefits and is 100% made in the USA.  Moissanites aren’t “cranked out in factories.”  It takes quite sometime for a gem grade quality moissanite crystal to form, and each crystal is cut individually, just like a diamond, to maximize it’s shine and cut down on it’s color (making it whiter). I also like knowing that I can sleep at night because we didn’t spend a good chunk of money we put into a retirement fund on a diamond.  Anyways, I’m glad that you were able to get the full story on moissy, cz, and diamond and make an informed choice.  I hope you love your ring, whatever it may be ๐Ÿ™‚  And yes, post pics when you get it!  Good luck and much happiness to come for you and your SO!!
