cocktail hours are my FAVORITE part of weddings.  that being said, if you hate them, you can either:

a) have photos taken during the time

or

b) skip it and go straight into dinner

Our ceremony, cocktail hour & dinner are all in the same place.

There is an area with a bar and a bunch of cocktail tables where we’ll hold our cocktail hour. It will be open bar with some simple finger food (not butlered, just self serve). We’re going to put some games on some of the cocktail tables & also have a decorated set up where people can find their escort cards. It should be a pretty short event, but I thought the games might help. We might also try to have indoor cornhole or bacci off to the side (it’s in a barn, so not black tie).

Cocktail hour is an ice cream bar outside and there will be lawn games for the guests to play.

@Mrs. Meowerson: Oh ya I love ice cream before dinner. We see no problem in it one bit.

@sschwartz:  I’m unsocial, too, and my family kind of is, too. This is usually the time during someone else’s wedding where I’d hit the social lubricant so I can enjoy the rest of the wedding lol. I’ll be taking pictures during mine, though. The games were a request from my family. Some of them said they wont’ dance, so I figure that’ll be a nice alternative for them during that time, too.

There are lots of little games you can have your guests do. Like I Spy with cheapie cameras, personalized crossword puzzles, ad libs. I like cocktail hour for the food, but would like something extra to do.
