- Wedding: May 2014
Now that my wedding has come and gone, I thought I should offer up some of the ideas that really worked for our ceremony in case it helps others! We had an interfaith ceremony, so our emphasis was really on the blending of two families and two traditions. With that in mind, the unity ceremony was very important to us.
Our ceremony was outdoors and our venue strongly suggested against the traditional candle lighting due to wind issues (And thank goodness! It was super windy that day!). I searched and searched, but was not a fan of some of the alternatives, mostly because I wanted something that would be in our home and pleasing to look at for years to come. Since our wedding was a Tuscan theme, I really liked the idea of a lock ceremony, however, I did not like the locks and plaques that were available to purchase.
So like any good bee, I turned to Etsy! I found a gorgeous iron work Tree of Life sculpture which perfectly fit the sentiment and meaning. I contacted the seller, who was more than happy to add the three hasps so that we could put our locks on.
It turned out more beautiful than I imagined! So beautiful that I ordered two more of the small ones as wedding presents for our parents who now have them hanging in their homes! I love how every time I see our tree or our parents’ that I remember the love and unity we all felt that day 🙂
Anyway, in case this helps out other bees, I wanted to share! Without further ado, the finished product!
It’s difficult to see, but there are two hasps on the roots and one on the trunk for us and our parents. This is pre-ceremony, so the locks are not on yet!
Here is a picture with the locks. The wind took it after the ceremony, so our frame was broken, but still beautiful!
Oh, in case anyone is looking, the seller is Humdinger Designs on etsy!
