Hi Bees!
I am wondering if anyone has found an alternative to Chinese firecrackers. My venue won’t allow them, and I’d like to see if I can find something that makes noise without all the smoke and red debris. Do they make “fake” firecrackers?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

@elliestan: Thanks for the reply! Well, first of all, you have to light it, and then it basically explodes all over the place. It’s kind of like Wile E Coyote & Roadrunner’s TNT/dynamite except on a smaller scale. The Christmas crackers does give me an idea, though. Maybe we could pass them out to the guests and then they could pull on them while we stamp on glass (it’s going to be a Chinese/Jewish wedding)… food for thought…

I think the Christmas crackers could work then! try to buy them in bulk after the holidays (surely someone will have them on sale) in like a plain red color and then you could get shuangxi stickers online to put on them to make them more Chinese-y. If my venue allowed confetti-type things, I’d totally do that :]

do Christmas crackers make noise? I thought they were just crepe paper tubes. I have no idea, I’m not British! have you considered a sparkler send off?

I think that “authentic” Christmas crackers do make noise, as they have a snap mechanism inside (usually a strip of cardboard infused with some sort of chemical… sounds weird but I won’t think about it too much).
It’s hard to find American companies that sell them, and the one that I talked to does not carry plain red paper in stock! Will keep looking…

*bump* Did you ever find an alternative to the Chinese firecrackers? My venue won’t allow them either.

@IAmLemondrop: I kind of gave up on this project 🙁 But, if you are interested in going the “Christmas crackers” route, there’s a company that can custom-make crackers for you. They don’t have red paper in stock, but they said that they can make crackers out of any paper that you find and send to them. The website is http://www.oldenglishcrackers.com. Hope this helps.
