magpiemae :  The garter toss has always been the most cringey moment of every wedding reception that I’ve been to (that did one) and I usually take the opportunity to grab a drink at the bar while the onlookers make a big fuss. Skip it! No one will miss it.

Best way to “handle” (LOL) the garter toss or even FAR YUCKIER, the Panties Pull Off, is by omitting the whole tasteless ritual and adding an additional dance number in its place.

We just skipped it. No one thought it was weird.

magpiemae :  My husband and I didn’t have a lot of single friends coming to the wedding, so we didn’t want them to be all lonely standing out on the floor when we did the bouquet and garter toss. So, we made bride and groom teddy bears from Build-a-bear and tossed those out to the kids. It was fun for all the children because one of them inevitable gets knocked down during the bouquet and garter toss anyway. Then, we were able to get really cheap teddy bears in bulk and kept tossing bears until every child had one. The photographer got some amazing pictures and every person that walked away from the wedding commented on how much they enjoyed watching the children stand out there and participate.

A good alternative is nothing. Like others, I don’t remember the last one of these I saw.
