I say you’re in the right for one reason: It’s your wedding! I don’t think anyone is ever said that they regret doing things ahead of time, because when it comes to the few months before the wedding there will be plenty of other stuff to do that just keeps coming up. For some reason I thought I had all the bases covered, but things just keep adding themselves to my list. It’s never ending and I wish I had started earlier, but due to a last minute decision to not do a destination wedding we had planned I have had only 5 months to figure everything out. There is nothing wrong with getting some good deals and crossing things off of your list early.

i always jump the gun on stuff too. when I found out the date of my sister’s wedding, i bought my dress as quickly as i could. 1 year early lol. i got it for a great price and i absolutely love it so no worries, do whatever you’re comfy with

@missjewels: My gut reaction was that you’re not doing anything wrong, but I haven’t planned a wedding, so I don’t know how often things change.
If you’ve had a vision of your day in your mind forever and you know exactly what you want, that’s one thing… but if you’re just seeing things and saying ‘oh that would be cute’ without giving much thought to color schemes, venue, etc. then that’s a problem.
I am a planner and think of things well in advance, but I generally only commit to things when I am 100% sure and have considered all other possibilities. If you’re like that, then I think what you’re doing is fine.

I wish I had planned ahead more like you! You can start collecting any time you want, who cares what anyone else thinks? I will say, though, after looking at this site obsessively, and Style Me Pretty, the style of my wedding changed a little bit and i ended up giving my aunt the vases that I had already purchased and bought new ones. (They were all really inexpensive, so no big deal). So I will just say – expect for things to change a little, even if you LOVE your ideas now.

I’d say chill from experience. I have a room full of great ideas. Closer to the wedding and I’m changing it all. A year from now, styles will be different, you will like different things, colours…who knows.

Hmmm! I’m just like you! I’m over a year away, but I’ve already started all kinds of DIY projects. I don’t want to be one of those brides who are trying to get everything done in the last few months. I’m in a FB group with brides in my local area and a couple of them had to ditch some projects because they just ran out of time and money! And speaking of money,, Fiance and I are paying for everything ourselves, so the more we can spread the purchases throughout the year, the better!
If you have a strong vision of what you want, and you see a good deal, then go for it!
