aussiejenn:  If you’re looking for a US based travel agent to put together a Tahiti package for you, I would definitely recommed Tahiti Legends. I used them (Lisa Corso to be specific) to book our trip to Bora Bora/Moorea last year, and it was truly the trip of a lifetime (and worth every penny for us). In fact, they did such a great job, I just contacted them again today to book our honeymoon in Fiji this Fall. Since there are direct flights from LAX to Papeete and Papeete to Sydney, I think it would be the perfect stopover point on your journey back to Australia (depending on your budget, of course).

To give you a better idea of cost, I just looked back at how much we paid for our trip last September, and for 5 nights in Bora Bora and 4 nights in Moorea staying in the overwater bungalows at the Intercontinental (we stayed in the honeymoon suite), our total came to $10K, which included airfare, accommodations and breakfast each day. However, they are always running specials, so if you give them your budget, they may be able to work something out for you. Good luck!

aussiejenn:  I know this is 150% off topic, but which shop in New Husband did you buy your gown at? I’m in that area & want to try on Maggie Sottero dresses! Thanks πŸ™‚

aussiejenn:  that’s how I read it, I just focused on the “fun fall things” part. πŸ˜€ Make sure you go to an orchard with apple cider donuts and have one for me! We’re doing the “hanging out” (on Plum Island) the week before, and then I don’t know if anyone gets any more of our attention after the wedding. I think we’ll both shut down. ha!

aussiejenn:  If you’re considering Mexico, may I suggest Holbox, it’s about 2 hrs from cancun but it’s so small and calm you can get you bungalows over the sea, without the party scene and probably cheaper than bora bora πŸ˜‰

aussiejenn:  Had to comment coz we sound so similar! I’m an aussie bee too, also bought a Maggie dress, and also looked at Bora Bora/Mexico/Hawaii for our honeymoon! πŸ˜‰

It really is crazy how expensive it can be to travel from here.. we went to the US at christmas time once.. it still kills me how much we spent on flights!

We’ve decided to scrap the ‘relaxation’ honeymoon idea and we’re now doing LA/NYC (I haven’t been to either, Fiance has and loved it) i’m super excited! We decided that considering we’re going at a time of year that isn’t great weather, we’ll save the beach holiday for another time!

Good luck with it all, wherever you decide will be amazing! πŸ™‚

We went to Bora Bora for our honeymoon, it was AMAZING!  We live in Perth, Australia, but got married in Auckland, New Zealand.  We flew from Auckland to Marlborough (for the wine!), then back to Auckland, then Tahiti, then Bora Bora, and back to Perth via Auckland.

We managed to get a good deal for flights and accomodation but it was too and from NZ, and SIL is a travel agent.  If you do go to Bora Bora I would recommend getting half board, so that your breakfasts and dinners are paid for in advance.  The overwater bungalows were more incredible than imagined!

You will never get another excuse like your wedding to take a ridiculous vacation. I say go with your dream and work it out.

Not sure if this is somewhere else on the thread, but have you considered Asian destinations? Thailand or the Phillipines? They have beautiful beaches and if I remember correctly when DH and I were planning our upcoming Thailand trip, you can find similar over-water accommodations there.  And I’m fairly sure you can get flights from Bangkok to Australia fairly easily.  Super bonus? It’s dirt cheap once you’re there.

aussiejenn:  I’ve been to Hawaii and cabo!! Hawaii was definitely our favorite and we will be going back this summer (it’s a 10 hour flight for us from Georgia) but cabo was also gorgeous. We went in December/January and we were there for New Years. we are not partiers either and it was perfect! But we have bern to a lot of your “typical honeymoon” places and we have decided we are eloping to Bora bora. Since we have been so many honeymoon places we decided our honeymoon has to be a once in a lifetime trip! I think it will be totally worth it!

aussiejenn:  I highly recommend the Excellence Resorts, particularly Playa Mujeres, Mexico. We honeymooned there and it was AMAZING. Probably the best vacation I’ve ever been on, it’s an adult only AI and it was pretty reasonable.  We had the best room you could get, everything was included and airfare for a little over $3k for 5 nights/6 days. We’re drinkers so that was quite a deal (we could easily spend $200+ a day on alcohol alone).

aussiejenn:  Hi! We are doing Bora Bora and you are right on many accounts – its extremely expensive but definitely a once in a lifetime experience. I say if you have the funds, go for it! That being said, it sounds like a LOT of travel so that would deter me. There are plenty of other places with similar experiences…have you looked into Thailand, Bali or the Maldives? Those were our other options but unfortunately, August is hurricane season. If I were you, I would pick something closer to Sydney so you could just hop on a short flight when you are done!
