I’m about to send am Amazon gift card to my brother for his b’day. The amount: $25
For some reason, it makes me feel super cheap – but, at the same time, not cheap enough to change the amount! 🙂
If it makes any difference – I usually do $50 gifts for each of his 3 kids, and probably about a $25 gift for his wife on their b’days.
When it’s my b’day – I’m lucky if I get a card and sometimes a phone call. Never a present.
Am I over-thinking this?

I dont think its cheap at all. I would be excited to get anything for my birthday being grown and having a kid.

I think that’s really generous. I still love getting birthday gifts (I’m turing 25 in a week) but I absolutely don’t expect them anymore, so anything I do get is a bonus! Don’t overthink it. If he thinks you’re being cheap, too bad for him!

You aren’t being cheap. That being said, I prefer to give a gift, rather than a gift card. When you buy something, it is hard for someone to guess the cost. Which allows me to be cheap. 🙂

I’m overjoyed when people send me a card. You’re not being cheap, even if you didn’t send money at all.

@msgraphics: I’m with on rather buying a gift vs. a gift card. I actually hate gift cards, because I’m bad at using them. I’m going the gift card route because his b’day is on Sunday and I didn’t make time to shop for anything and don’t want to pay online shipping prices to get their on time. YAY for amazon’s next day free shipping w/ gift cards!
@all – Thank you!!!l – I was driving myself crazy! 🙂 Gift card bought, sent – done!

I think thats fine. We don’t even always exchange gifts (my bro and I).

For an adult, I also would avoid a gift card, unless there’s a good reason for it (once I got some speakers and an iTunes GC for my Dad, he knows his music collection better than I do). For birthdays, everyone does something different, I don’t think $25 is cheap.

I think it depends on the way you celebrate birthdays. My family doesn’t take them too seriously so I would be beyound thrilled to get a $25 gift card from my sister. That said my DH’s family is all about birthdays, I think for their family it might be on the low end. Sounds good to me though.
