So he won’t have a conversation like an adult about a solid timeline after TEN years. And he prioritized fishing equipment over rent and your future? And fishing equipment set a 30 year old so far back that he couldn’t pay rent, meaning that’s all the money he had….and he chose to spend it on fishing equipment? So like, zero savings? Good luck buying a ring or a house anytime soon.
I’m sorry, why do you even want to marry this man child? I’m lost.
And no, I wouldn’t ever wait 10 years for a proposal. That’s absurd. I’m the girl from your story who got engaged to her SO after 1 year and pissed off the gf of H’s friend. Now we’re married, have multiple homes and a baby on the way. And PS- my husbands friend’s longtime gf who was pissed when we got engaged still isn’t engaged, 3 years later. Time to go.

I havent read all the comments – but – I see you’re getting a lit of advice to wait 3 months then walk if he doesn’t propose. You guys have been together long enough that you should be able to sit down and discuss a real timeline. Work backwards… if you want to get married in say May 2020 and need 1 year to plan then that means getting engaged by May of this year. Explain your feelings rationally, and if he seems resistant to proposing THEN set a walk date you’re both aware of. Making this into a “wait and see” guessing game will only end with hurt feelings.
