I said yes.  If it’s over your budget, then you’re spending too much.  How many guests are you having?  It seems like you can cut down on some of those numbers and even cut some of that stuff out.

I would say, if it’s in the budget go for it. If your putting yourself into debt for uplighting, reign it in. It does sound like your wedding is going to be beautiful.

We spent about $2000 on decor all together, including flowers. It was in a castle though, and they provided all the linens etc so it didn’t need much.

Compared to my wedding — Yes!! BUT you’re not DIY’ing (from the sounds of it) so what you’re spending in $$ is what I gave in time. Our flowers were $500, uplighting was $160 (we had 8 uplights), dance floor was included…although, if we’d had the money we wanted a black one.

I will say… if I had the money for draping, I’d totally do it. It’s beautiful.

Not sure where our wedding ended up in cost, but I’d say somewhere around $12,000, and most of that was the venue.

We are spending quite a bit on everything, probably 1/4 of the budget of decor, BUT, we are purchasing everything not renting, so we’ll make most if not all of that money back after the wedding.

Seems like a bit much to me compared to your overall budget, and a lot in general to my frugal sensibilities, but as long as you have everything else locked in and are fine with how your budget is going, I say go for it!

Our wedding looks like it will be around $17,500 total including our rehearsal dinner and rings, and right now I have $1200 budgeted for flowers, centerpieces, and for our dance floor (which I don’t really consider decor, but I’ve included it since you mentioned it) but we haven’t done a TON of shopping for those things yet, so it could end up being more.  We aren’t going to have a lot of time to set up our space, so I’m not bothering with more decor than that.

And if you have a tent, you’re gonna want that dance floor.  🙂

@BrideToBe14:  I feel like it depends on what else you have spent money on. If you focus a large part of your budget on room decor instead of hosting your guests properly, then yes. If you’ve taken care of all of the basics of hosting your guests, and you have the money to spend on decor, then I don’t see why going all out on decor would be a problem. Just make sure your guests are comfortable and happy!

I think it also depends on where you live.  I gasped when I saw $3,000 for flowers alone, as that’s nearly 1/3 of our budget and what we’re paying for catering haha. Our flowers total $290.

Is it possible to cut out any flowers or draping if you want to cut costs?

Personally I’d much rather spend 3 grand on something that won’t die in 24 hours, but that’s just me. It’s YOUR day, as long as you can afford it without breaking the bank, I say go ahead.

It seems like a lot given your budget.  Mine was around $50,000, and I skipped things like draping and specialized linens, so I could spend more money on food, open bar and a photobooth.  I think people remember those things more than the fact that your linens matched your bridesmaids dresses.

The draping sounds like a lot to me…

    It’s really subjective, I think.

My decor, flowers & centrepieces combined are $2000.

Linens and chaircovers are included in my venue/food costs.
