So, we are 85 days away from our what Fiance calls “beach formal” wedding. I have been scouring what seems like the ENTIRE SOUTHERN UNITED STATES for the perfect beach, casual, long (maxi) TURQUOISE bridesmaid dresses. I found an aqua one at TJ Maxx of all places for $25 bucks. I was…ok with it. However, it was all cotton. Not really what I had in mind, but it was long, and I’m getting desperate. My sister, the Maid/Matron of Honor, and my best friend, my tentative** bridesmaid, are super hip to whatever I want, just tell us what to do. So after all the months of searching for dresses, I just find the lone aqua one.
(**tentative-Back story, we aren’t sure if FI’s best friend can make it, so we had kind of just resigned ourselves to thinking of Maid/Matron of Honor and Bridesmaid or Best Man attire.)
THEN…I’m at GAP with my 7 year old daughter Saturday…just hanging out, being totally casual…(kind of secretly looking for a dress for HER, but no pressure…she is ridiculously picky as she believes in her heart and soul she is a pop star/actress/celebrity..and we’ve already purchased two pretty cheap dresses that she doesn’t LOVE)…anyway….GAP has ZERO linen, turquoise, whatever. And then I come across this GORGEOUS coral spaghetti strap racerback LONG tank dress. I’m all like, HOLLLAAAAA and I run to the fitting room to try it on. It’s super on sale for 23.99 with an extra 30% off. I’m like, “Katie. This dress is BadA!! I can wear it on the honeymoon, with a jean jacket, flip flops..” She shows interest (fake) as she’s playing on her iPod. I’m excited because it has a cotton top (stretchy for the bigger busted me), and a satin bottom..I mention that it would be a perfect bridesmaid dress..if only it were in turquoise…boo.
So I walk out to the floor and I’m still scouring for deals..I come across the dress again in a smaller size. Then it hits me. DUH. This dress isn’t for me. IT’S FOR MY BRIDESMAIDS!!!! I panic and call my bridesmaid-who-I-want-in-the-wedding-but-FI’s-groomsman-may-not-come-and-i-have-ocd-so-it-has-to-be-even. I tell her I just found the most amazing dress at GAP for cheap. And there are two. IS MY SEARCH OVER?!?!?! She says “GET THE DAMN DRESSES!!!! WE CAN WEAR TURQUOISE JEWELERY!!!” So, I hem and haw for twenty minutes trying to call my sister. Finally, I purchase the two dresses. $16.79 each. I am unbelievably stoked. The saleslady obviously knows I am insane, as she prints me off two gift receipts and seriously tries to usher me to the door.
I run to Body Central where they have super cheap jewelry, and buy two turquoise-y necklaces for $6.
I post pics on FB of my deal of the day. Everyone is elated. (Mostly that I have actually commited to something for the wedding-maybe I am really picky? The venue, photog, etc is all finished..it’s just THE ATTIRE I can’t seem to commit to)
**Groomsman who may not come calls that night as I am snapping pics of the dresses. He wants hotel suggestions FOR OUR WEDDING!! He thinks he can make it!! It’s like it was meant to be!! I am insane.
Did I mention these dresses are not in my color scheme? Now I have to redo everything!! Or just add coral touches to the bouquets and my dress.
I just wanted to share my giddiness, because I knew you guys would understand!!!
