Hi bees! Just a random question. Is it possible I’m doing cross fit too much? I go three times a week and then I train with a trainer (at another gym) 1 time a week.
Should I add in more cardio? Maybe 3 times a week hit the elliptical, stairmill, or run? I do walk my dogs for an hour on a daily basis – but I don’t really count this as exercise since the old heart rate is up too much and I’m not dripping in sweat (like I am after Cross Fit or training).
My goal is to lose 14 pounds by my next dress fitting (December 18th). Will the extra cardio help?

Why are you asking us? You go to a gym and a trainer… shouldn’t you be asking them?

Is it possible you’re losing inches, not pounds? Are you eating enough to support that amount of activity?

Cardio vs strength–doesn’t matter, you will still lose weight. You are actually more likely to lose with strength training because the extra muscles continue to burn more calories AFTER the workout. You may not lose pounds due to weight of muscle, but you will absolutely lose inches because muscle takes up a lot less space than fat. But strength training is the #1 most important thing you can do to lose weight. But, obviously if you do crossfit 3 times a week and cardio on the other days, you will reach your goal a lot faster. Just don’t do the elliptical–it does nothing for you cardiowise–its all strides and no natural movement of the legs.

@coolbride125: I think you should do Crossfit 4 times a week and nix everything else. You don’t really have to do anything else if you are doing Crossfit. How is your diet? I have been doing Crossfit on and off for 6 months and have lost 20 lbs.

Diet is more important than workout if you are trying to change the scale. Have you reviewed your diet with your trainer? Is 14 lbs. realistic with your frame and current weight? How did you come to the amount of 14 lbs– was is a previous weight or just an arbitrary number?

@coolbride125: That’s why you pay a pretty penny to go to CF! They are there to help you with whatever goals you want to accomplish.
I go 3x a week just as a baseline (aka maintain what I’ve got). I would like to add Zumba once a week as it’s very high aerobic. But I’m also a big hiker/biker/skier, so I do at least one of those outdoor things once a week at a minimum on top of CF.
I bet if you go 4x a week, and try a Paleo or Zone diet (or just cut out processed carbs and sugar for simplicity), you will drop pounds easily!

@coolbride125: Sounds like you’re on track. Just watch what you’re eating. 14lbs is a pretty big number to lose but that depends on a variety of factors.
Also, you CAN do too much crossfit. It (along with any other intense training) can cause rhabdomyolysis. I have seen it personally with several people.
