Hi everyone! I’m new here and need your advice for my June wedding!
I’m planning a rooftop reception at LA Athletic Club and its quite bare! Concrete floors, chain-link fence, etc.., but the view is to DIE for, especially at night. The roof is separated into two by a raised platform, so I was thinking 1 side cocktails/dancing/lounge and 2nd side dinner.
So here’s my dilemma: I want to soften up JUST the dinner area with some curtains, uplighting and string lights on top. Pretty much like this picture below. But am I going to take away from the view??? Is it too much??
So this is the night view. I’m not sure if you can see, but the division in the middle is the raised floor. The side closest to the buildings is the dancing/cocktail area. this picture here is the “dinner” side of the roof, not a great view since there aren’t any high rises on this side.
Any ideas, fellow bees??

I like the idea with the curtains and lights. Your guest will still get the view, since the curtains are cinched in the middle, and it will create more of a defined space. Love it

I think your idea is fantastic! It’s going to be gorgeous!

That looks is FANTASTIC!!! Lucky girl for getting the LA Athletic Club. DH and I met at USC so we know that area well!

Ok I just had a crazy alternative idea for you and I’m nto sure how much it would cost or what your budget is.
I see that there are some potted trees already up there. What if you rent more potted trees and string lights in them to make it like a rooftop garden feel?
We had our Rehearsal Dinner on the patio of the Bonaventure Hotel in DT LA and that was how it felt. We had all the lit up sky scrapers around us but with the trees and bistro lights it felt very intimate and enchanged.

No I don’t think it will take away from the view at all, esp if the curtains you choose are a bit sheer. It will be beautiful!!

I think it will be gorgeous!! I don’t think the curtains will take away from the views at all and will definitely enhance/define your space! What a gorgeous venue 🙂

@Meowkers: wow that looks great! I wouldn’t even mind the garden look for the cocktail/dancing space for a lounge type feel.
Thanks everyone for your input! 🙂

It looks so awesome, I think because you are only doing the dinner area it will make it feel intimate and nice, and then for dancing it will be wide open. It’s stunning view, and a very uinique venue have they rented out for wedding before?

@TwoCityBride: They have rented it out for weddings. But brides seem to like having the ceremony on the rooftop and the reception indoors. And the very few (like me) that have it reversed, they didn’t do much for the decor. So no past wedding inspirations to go off on. bum.
