My boyfriend ordered my ring two weeks ago and the jeweler said it would take 3 weeks. I hope to get it before Xmas! Although I’m Jewish and this is my 2nd Xmas with him and his family. We are going to look at the Mandarin Oriental and the Loews Madison tomorrow:
Is it weird that we are looking before even being engaged? I know 1/4 proposals happens between Thanksgiving and Xmas, and I live in a competitive town (DC). We wouldn’t book anything before he actually proposed. Did any other bees do research before getting a ring?

@Washingtonian: I certainly did some research before I got my ring 🙂 I knew that my boyfriend was going to propose so I wanted to get an idea of reception/ceremony venues, vendors etc so it wouldn’t be too overwhelming afterwards!

Maybe a little bit. Ask what your fiance to be thinks about it.

@Washingtonian: if you both are commited to getting married, then you are engaged… a ring does not make you engaged– so go ahead plan away, technically you are engaged ring or not.

@SparkleBee11: haha, I sort of agree, but I don’t think he does 🙂
He is coming with my mom and I tomorrow. But we agreed to actually book it until I had the ring 🙂

@Washingtonian: we actually found our venue about 2 months before we got engaged! We had been talking about getting married so we started looking to get an idea of what a reasonable budget was.

@Washingtonian: No, it’s not weird to start looking at venues. You’ve obviously discussed getting married and are planning on it. The ring is almost a technicality at this point. Go look at venues before they’re scooped up. 🙂

@Washingtonian: We started planning as soon as he asked.. we really wanted to get started on it!
He had asked with a solitaire ring his mother gave him specifically for the proposal, and then I picked out & ordered a ring that I wanted.. which came a few weeks later.
So technically, I started planning before I got my actual ring!

@Washingtonian: We picked out the ring and ordered it, and while it was being made I started planning. Before that I had only had very vague ideas, because Im a girl and I like to fantisise 😛 But the serious planning only started after the rings were ordered and we only started “looking and booking” after the ring was on my finger. This was also because I hate the questons when you dont have a ring on, but tell people youre engaged. They look at you like you’re nuts.
