I don’t live where I’m having my wedding, but I’m going home (my hometown) in May and will see my seamstress then. My wedding is in July. Is this pushing it? In my mind it seemed like plenty of time… I mean, I know people who had shotgun weddings and planned everything in two months. Now I’m reading other posts and it seems like people have 3 fittings and I might be blowing this…. help!

May sounds perfect for a July wedding. I had my first fitting last week and I already have my second this week, most semstresses can work pretty quickly.

That sounds just fine. My dress didn’t actually come in until mid-June for my early July wedding, and it was plenty of time.

@NDfan2009: Hey date twin!
My wedding is in a different state as well. They recommended 3 fittings. I think May is perfect for a 1st fitting, will you have time to go in again?
I had my first fitting in November, second in December. I was back in town for the holidays so it was convenient. My third fitting (and hopefully final) will not be until most likely June now. Both fittings something needed to be fixed, so I’d recommend trying to have at least 2.

My dress is due to arrive 2 weeks before my wedding, so 2 weeks to have all the alterations done and the bridal shop said it will be fine. They said alterations can be done in a week, so I think you have plenty of time!

I’m getting mine started a month beforehand! Plenty of time!

That’s plenty of time! I lived out of state for some of our wedding planning, including the dress shopping and first alterations appointment (we were moving in-state, just not in time before needing to get those things done) and my dress needed major alterations since I didn’t have time for it to be ordered in and what they had was a size 14, I’m a 00. I’m also 5 feet tall and needed the hem taken up significantly. It was a dress that was not very easy to alter, too, with the lace. It was done beautifully and finished way ahead of our wedding date. Alterations started in May, our wedding was July 12th, so similar timeline to yours.

Thanks for all of the advice!! I woke up nervous this am and had all of these reassuring messages waiting for me!
I won’t be back in town again until the wedding, but I’ll be there two weeks beforehand, so I think I could go for a second fitting then? I’ve been so on top of things and really dropped the ball here….
