I live on Long Island, NY… and anyone that is from here knows that everything is super EXPENSIVE! Our wedding budget is $7000. My fiance and I are scaraficing location in order to get everything else we want. We’ve rented a VFW location for $740 for 4 hours + $10 per hour to set up, which is a steal for a hall rental… while other wedding reception halls can rent as much as $5,000. Since the hall is such a blank slate (beige walls and wood floors, no windows but there are arched mirrors around the room), I plan on spending close to $1500 on decor (not including flowers), $800 of that just on table settings alone. My fiance thinks that is too much but I don’t think it’s enough. He’s trying to get me to cut back but i’ve already sacraficed location, I don’t think I should have to sacrafice on decor as well. We will probably have 12 tables; including our table, the cake table and the table for seating cards and gift box… and all the decor I want for each table is coming out to be about $65. I don’t think that is unreasonable. I’m marrying a man who likes to be involved in things like this, unlike most guys who have the attitude that they just have to put on a tux and show up. It’s a good and bad thing at the same time. All of this money is coming out of my pocket so I think it should be my decision. Is my budget unreasonable? Most everything else is already paid for by my parents and my fiance’s great aunt.
