that Fiance picked my engagement ring out totally on his own?
I was at the jewelry store this weekend getting our wedding rings, and there were 3 couples in there trying on engagement rings. One of the girls was in happy tears when she put one ring one – and then they left without the ring!!!
I see many people on here talking about FI’s that bought the ring themselves and the women hate the ring or want to change it immediately.
Is there anyone else who’s guy bought the ring with little to no input from you and you were thrilled with that?
ETA: Here’s my ring. Please show off yours too!!!

sigh…that would be nice! Sadly, my Fiance can not be trusted when it comes to picking out jewelry so we picked it out together. After our engagement he told me he’s so glad we did because he would have NEVER picked anything like that for me. Lord only knows what he would have come home with, lol!

My Fiance bought the ring with only a vague idea of what I wanted (not that I had that a strong sense of what I wanted either). However, I knew that I would love a Canadian diamond – so I had told him that. Very happy that I got one and everything else with the ring is just perfect for me. Plus, every time I see it I remember the day he proposed and that makes me smile. Seriously the best day in my life.
And in response to the ETA – here’s my ring:
It’s a solitaire, but has a tiny sapphire at the base of the setting:
And it’s on the middle finger on this photo as it was a little big when I got it. I actually liked it there, as my circulation is bad and I thought that would be a better finger for a ring. However, Fiance got all sad-eyed when I mentioned keeping it there – so once we came back from Bermuda (where he proposed) we had it re-sized. Turns out the ring have no effect on the circulation (both fingers are just as crappy) – so I’m glad I went along with that!

Mine was a complete and total surprise, as was the proposal. I could not be happier with the ring and the proposal, and I could not have picked a better ring. I loved that he picked the ring, thinking of me, our love and our future together.

Mine was a complete surprise, and I love my ring. Actually, I believe I said “it looks like a caterpillar made out of diamonds!” after he put it on my finger. Which to me was a very good thing.
The only hint he had was that I once complained about a ring I have with a setting that’s too high, so he took that to mean he should find an engagement ring with a low setting. The low setting he found turned out to be a half bezel, which is both more secure than prongs and doesn’t catch on my pockets.
(The diamonds continue down the side of the band in 4 rows, hence the caterpillar.)

Yep. My whole proposal was a total surprise (wasn’t expecting it for at least 1-2 more years) and I adore my ring.
We never went ring shopping together. He knew I liked princess solitaires and white gold, and that was it. He had to call my mom for my ring size lol.
I gotta say, he did an amazing job. <3

Ah, that wouldve been nice. But poor Darling Husband isnt the best gift giver.

No I picked mine out on my own, though I did show him kinds and got his input on what he thought looked nice. But I had the final decision. He hates to shop and I like having control over something I will be wearing everyday. I can be quite picky sometimes as far as clothes and jewelry. Worked out perfectly for us!

@Glasgowbound: Mine was a total surprise! He picked it out all on his own.
It wasn’t at all what I had in mind- I wanted something with bends, twists, angles, something different and funky… something that would need a custom wedding band with a precise curve to match the curve of the Engagement Ring.
He chose for me a very classic, elegant, beautiful solitaire. And I love it!
Then we went shopping for wedding bands together, and we found the perfect wedding band, and I loved it even more! I can’t wait to wear mine as a set. 🙂

My fiance knows I’m really indecisive so we’re picking it out together. Which I like since it’ll be something I wear forever and I have a say on it. However, it wouldn’ve been really nice if he surprised me, like “this ring reminded me of you /what you would like so i had to get it” but oh well. Also I hate when we’re looking at rings we occasionally goo to wedding bands section to look for one for him, the sales person ask where my ring is :/

I like having control over something I have to wear so we picked together. I love that he let me pick with him!

I chose “we picked it together” but that’s only because we’d been shopping together several times. When he actually purchased the ring, he was at the jeweler’s alone and chose what he thought, and then called me to drive the 1/2 hour to choose what I liked. We must be very compatible, because without knowing what he’d already chosen, I picked the same thing! Even down to the particular marquise. We both chose the smaller of the two (1.27 vs 1.51) because the color and dimensions were better. And what’s even more unbelievable, is that we’d NEVER looked at cathedral solitaires before; until that day, I thought I wanted a channel-set semi-mount.

@Glasgowbound: I love mine SO MUCH. The only proviso that I gave, when he’d vaguely asked in apparent academic interest, was that it had to be yellow gold to match all my other ‘proper’ jewellery.
Got it cleaned at the weekend. Can’t stop taking pictures of it. It’s SO SHINY.
Your ring is beautiful! It almost reminds me of the Elven rings in the Lord of the Rings films, with the delicate vine-like pattern.

My honey has excellent taste. But more than that, he knows me and what I like, so well. I love him.
