i think people are different. i’ve always heard that brides lose weight right before the wedding b/c of stress…. but i’m a stress eater so i gained. i wasn’t trying to lose, but i didn’t want to gain! when i bought my wedding dress, it was a little big. by the time of the wedding, it fit perfectly. at least i didn’t have to pay for alterations.

I don’t have any major plans to diet before the wedding at this point (it’s about 4 months away).  My dress should approximately fit when it comes in because I’ve stayed the same or even lost a few pounds due to job stress since when I ordered it.  If it doesn’t fit, I’ll try to diet the last few months before the wedding.

I think I look ok at my current size (though I have been thinner and fitter in my early 20s) and I just don’t have it in me to add “major diet/fitness overhaul” (because that’s what it takes for me to really drop weight) to my list of things I have to do in the next 4 months.  I just started a new job with a longer commute, I’m moving this summer, and I’m planning a wedding in 4 months.

OP: When you say carb dieting, I assume you mean low carb? The thing about low-carb diets is that you have to EAT until you’re full. It’s a weird switch from doing low-calorie (starvation, anyone?) diets because they tell you to count every calorie. But if you don’t EAT on a low-carb diet, you will feel very tired. At one point I was taking in about 2200 calories a day and still dropping about 3 lbs a week. Also, I was drinking a boatload of water (like over a gallon) every day.

Once misconception about low-carb diets is that you will lose weight QUICK. Well, actually if you compare a low-calorie or low-carb diet over a long period of time, people lose about the same amount of weight. The difference? Low-carb diets are MUCH easier to stick to because you CAN EAT and you are NEVER supposed to feel hungry. It’s hard to stay on a diet when you feel like crap.

I know that these tips are a little late for you with your wedding date fast approaching, but if you wanted to get in shape before the wedding, hopefully there is nothing stopping you from still getting in shape once it’s over! Good luck to you πŸ™‚

I am the same size as you are now and have been as small as a 12. I wanted to get down to around a small 14 but it never happened… still in the 16/18 range (and my wedding was last March! Oh well… I still had an AWESOME day and felt I looked great. (pics in blog in my profile)

My dress is a size 16/18 and honestly I am happy with being that size when I get married. I do have moments of OMG I should lose weight but honestly if my Fiance was going to love me more because I was smaller we would not be together or really even gotten to this point in the first place. I think if you are happy and so excited to marry your Fiance that is what is going to show in the pictures not that you lost 5 pounds.

for me it was less about losing weight more about toning up – i used to be so muscular – no flab. but im very soft and jiggly now LOL so with tons of cardio and lifting im hoping to get back to ‘toned’ – no matter the weight (muscle weighs more than fat!!!) i have a few months left… and if nothing else i want to look good in my bikini when i get to my honeymoon!!

I have 6 weeks to my wedding, and I havent lost a pound! I am totally an emotional eater, so it can be frustrating trying to deal with stress!

Be very proud of yourself that you had lost 40 lbs! Thats wonderful! Definatly keep trying, but know that you will look gorgeous no matter what! πŸ™‚
