Typically, I’m a size 22/24 and we’re on a tight budget for our wedding. So, I found a bridesmaids dress I loved and ordered it in ivory and it looks very bridal… and it only cost $169. I tried on SO MANY bridal gowns before and the only one I liked and felt comfortable in was $900 – way over budget. I couldn’t be happier with my choice.

@canway11: I am a size 32w. I had a phenomenal experience at Sydney’s Closet in St. Louis, MO. I am in Louisville, KY so we made it a roadtrip and I am so glad I did. I tried on several dresses IN MY SIZE and was able to see what they actually looked like and how they really fit,not just how they might look. I had the experience I never thought was possible at my size, but like you, I was determined not to settle and I didn’t! Good luck!

I’m an 18 and haven’t been dress shopping yet, but if anyone is in the Pittsburgh area, there is a store up there called Koda Bridal that specializes in plus size dresses. Actually, I don’t even think they carry anything below a 16. I follow them on Facebook and they seem to be the sweetest ladies who genuinely want to help us find the perfect dress. I’m going to make a trip up soon and will let everyone know how it goes!
ETA: Just reread the posts and saw that someone already mentioned this. Oops!

I’m an 18/20. I called the salons beforehand to make sure they had dresses I would be able to try on. Most of them only had A line or small ball gowns in the bigger sizes. I was able to try on dresses that were as small as a 12 provided that they were A line or fuller in the hips. Most stores had this weird zipper thing that could extend the size of the dress so that it’s zipped up instead of clipped. I ended up buying my dress without trying it on. I did try on a very similarly shaped dress, though. That helps a lot! If you fall in love with a dress but can’t try it on it’s not the end of the world. Just try on the same silhouette to see how it will look.

I’m a 24 and have had that problem in less mainstream salons than DB. DB actually had a lot in my size, even in the designer collections. I think it really depends on the store

Size 22 here. Alot of stores don’t have alot of plus size options. The David’s bridal I went to only had sizes 16 and 26. I ended up going to another because the attendant I had was so rude and kept rolling her eyes when I was telling my mom about my “crease” roll under my arm pit. We told her what style of dress I wanted. Nothing mermaid nor trumpet because of my stomach and shortness….This woman pulle 2 mermaids and a short bridesmaid type dress. My mom went to pull more dresses and the attendant gave me the bustier bra and left. “HOW THE HELL IMMA PUT THIS BRA ON HEIFER!!!!!” I walked my sexy ass to my mom, got my coat, threw that lady that bra and left. Looked at online reviews for that store and they were horrible.

I was a size 18/20 when I went shopping for my dress. I called around to salons in my area and asked if they had any dresses in my size. I got a few ruse responses, and one “yes!” but I got there and their “plus size” was a size 10… I found 2-3 really great salons including Davids Bridal. I knew what style I was looking for so I made sure that they had something similiar in my size. After that, they put my dream dress on a dress form so I could see the details of the dress even though it wasn’t my size. Using the dress I was wearing and the dress I wanted on the mannequin, they explained that the fit and style would be the same and showed me what differences would be between the two. After that I felt confident ordering my dream dress in my size. It will be here in a month or two and I can’t wait!
