I went to try on Ethel yesterday at Vera Wang NYC. I had been lusting over the dress for months before I tried it. I am concerned that maybe I am too petite for this dress. I’m 5’2″ and wearing 5 inch heels in these photos. The first two pictures are me standing on a box in the heels, obviously making me look taller.
The next picture is Me on the box but with the extra fabric tucked under. I wouldn’t be wearing a sash with the dress. Also this photo makes me look like a tummy but I don’t have one!
Honest opinions please!! 🙂

I’m not too much taller than you are, so I understand why you are asking this question. I’ve definitely seen some pics of petite brides in mermaid dresses with this type of bottom, and I have thought that the style was not best for that particular bride. However, I think that you look great in this dress and that you can pull off this look very well. Even if I put my finger over the bottom of the dress in the first pic, I think there is still enough bottom there to make this dress look the way it was intended to look.

i’m the same height as you so i also uinderstand your concerns. i could never pull off this dress – i’m much too hippy. you look thin and super tall! if you love the dress don’t let your height hold you back because you can totally pull it off!

@Tulleprincess13: as a tall girl (5’9″), I can genuinely say that I would never think you were short in those pictures (I realize the box helps, but I’m speaking more of your body proportions). You’re so lean that this dress totally works. You look awesome!

no way! this looks INCREDIBLE on you!

I think its gorgeous on you. The only thing would be that I think you should see if they can shorten it by raising the bottom so the mermaid hits you slightly higher. If they can’t, it is still gorgeous with some of the skirt taken out.

OMG no not too petite/short at all! You look STUN-NING! Seriously. 🙂 Get it.

You seriously look beautiful in this dress!!

I think the dress is perfect for you. You look long and lean in it! I do like it with the sash though too even though you said you weren’t going to wear it.

I think you look great. One question to ask yourself is – can you last all night in 5 inch heels? If you think you can, then say yes to that dress! 😀

@Tulleprincess13: I’m a little shorter than you (5’1″) and I completely understand the fear of a dress looking “wrong” based on your height!
That being said, I would never have guessed you’re only 5’2″ from these pictures! I know you said you were standing on a box in heels, but still … You look much taller than you are. I think the dress is perfect for your figure! Also, I know you said you weren’t planning on wearing the sash, but I actually really like it a lot. The sash really helps accentuate your small waist!
I love the dress … I think you should definitely go for it (especially if you can handle wearing the 5″ heels for the wedding)!

You look amazing!! And 5 inch heels make you 5’7 which is great for a that style dress!

I think if they altered it so it flared out higher, instead of losing it all from the bottom, then it would be more proportional and would totally work. You definitely have the body for it!

Thank you very much for you reassurance everyone! @angelinthesnowxo I think I know what you mean about the sash actually.I think if I was going to get a sash I would get a Jenny Packham sash to match the headdress I will be wearing (acacia 1 by Jenny packham)
@Rubbs I measured myself wearing the 5 inch heels I will be wearing and I came out at 5’4″. I think you can’t automatically add on the heel height to your own height unfortunately =(
I think I will be ok in them all night long!

I think the dress looks beautiful. Can you order it hollow to hem so that you have a better chance of keeping more of the skirt? (Even if you can’t, it still looks great.)
