So I just watched a trailer for Anonymous and Rhys Ifans has such amazing range. I can remember thinking how funny he was in Notting Hill and then I saw him in Vanity Fair. He is believable in every role I have seen him in so far.
10 years ago I would have said the same about Kevin Spacey. He has become a household name now, but I can remember in Usual Suspects he blew my mind and I had no idea who he was then.
Is there an actor/actress like that in your book?

Richard Jenkins (Six Feet Under) and Philip Baker Hall (Magnolia, Boogie Nights and Mr. Bookman on Seinfeld) are the first two that come to mind.

Melissa McCarthy, though she is gaining popularity NOW. She’s been around since the 90s.
She was always so good/adorable in Gilmore Girls. Now she has a show called Mike & Molly that I love. And she was in Bridesmaids recently. But she’s been in the business for YEARS.
And yes, she’s Jenny McCarthy’s cousin. You can kind of see it in the face.

Looks like I have some new actors to check out 🙂 I love movies so I am always looking for something new to watch 🙂

@PutABirdOnIt: The whole cast of Sox Feet Under was excellent, but I agree with you especially about Richard Jenkins.
There’s most of the cast of Firefly. Nathan Fillion is becoming a household name with Castle, but he wasn’t until recently. Alan Tudyk and Jewel Staite (my screen name is from her character) should receive much more attention.

Well, depends on which side of the Atlantic you’re on – I know in the UK he absolutely is a household name, but in the US, most people have no idea who I’m talking about when I mention my favorite actor (for both acting skills and hotness..hehe)

Bob Gunton always plays the best bad guys, and no one ever knows who he is! I love him!
Dougray Scott has an amazing range as well (Ever After as the charming prince, MIssion Impossible: 2 as a totally evil bad guy)
I also really appreciate Catherine O’ Hara. She is one of the absolute best comediennes, an extremely versatile actress. Maybe some people know her more now, but I have always thought she was under appreciated.

@kaylee26: agreed-that whole cast was amazing, especially Frances Conroy and Patricia Neal. Two more uncommon household names:)

@KatyElle: Bob Gunton is a BAMF.

Adam Scott, hands down. Party Down was so awesome. He shines in Parks and Rec. I watch Monster in Law on mute and only unmute it when he’s in a scene.

@brox: I hope he and Leslie get back together

@KatyElle: Me too. They were so damn cute together. He gave her an eclair!! It melted my heart so much.

!!Ahhh yes David Tennant! I saw Fright Night just because he was in it.
also Scottish actor Alan Cumming

@KatyElle: Oh, we know Bob! The best baddest badass warden ever to grace a screen. Shawshank people, Shawshank!
@fiver: What’s going on here? Those are the hosts of PBS shows that I watch religiously. David hosts Masterpiece Contemporary and Alan Cumming hosts Masterpiece Mystery! and I love both of them to pieces. I noticed that I love me some British actors. Laurence Fox is the hotness and Matthew Goode also makes an appearance. And for my African roots, one must not forget David Oyelowo (recently in The Help) and Chiwetel Ejiofor. How come they are all British
