As a spinoff to this thread, I thought I would create one sharing some of the incredible gems that I came across during my dress search. I don’t think Aussie designers get nearly enough exposure on here and I just had to share 🙂
I would love to see more pics if people would like to post them. I can’t get enough of Aussie designers!
Johanna Johnson (I was lucky enough to meet the designer herself when I tried this one on. She is lovely!!)
Karen Willis Holmes

@MlleFabuleux: Oh J’Aton are fabulous.. Here is the dress they made for Jodi Gordon

@Cyri: I like her dress a lot (when I first saw this wedding, I thought Rebecca Twigley had another wedding–they look very similar to me).
I also really like Paolo Sebastian:
Norma Bridal Couture:

Great, now I’m lusting after Karen Willis Holmes dresses and the closest store is on the other side of the globe. You’re killing me!
They’re also probably way, way over my budget.

I tried on some amazing Rachel Gilbert designs (price point wasn’t too bad etiher)
@jennmariee: They ship internationally 😉 Prices are actually listed on the KWH website too. Haha, not trying to be a bad influence!

I have bought my dress from Karen Willis Holmes and I love love loved her dresses. Another good one in melbourne is Ameline Vitale, on high st amadale – met the designer when trying on dresses and she was accomodating and very talented…

Love Rachel Gilbert. I think her evening gowns are a bit pricey for what they are, but her new bridal collection is divine.
My favourites Aussie bridal designers are Steven Khalil, Alex Perry and Toni Maticevski. Toni’s couture pieces are incredible, quite on the avant-garde side but so breathtakingly beautiful.

@melbgirl: Which dress did you end up with?!
@peonyinparis: I adore Steven Khalil’s work and wish I could have had him make my dress. I’ve seen his gowns and the craftsmanship is amazing. Sigh!!

I must find more so this thread doesn’t die too quickly! There are soooooooo many gorgeous dresses

Just wanted to add some photos of former Miss Universe Jen Hawkins’ dress, she just married her beau Jake Wall in Bali. Toni Maticevski designed her gown (including a reception dress that she never changed into because she was so in love with her ceremony dress). Her gown features 70 metres of silk organza in the skirt alone. I love this for two reasons – she kept her look so elegant and classic (and didn’t feel the need to show off her killer body) and that it’s not another bloody J’Aton dress.

Aussie bride here… I love this! Going to resurrect it with one who hasn’t been mentioned here.. Craig Braybrook 🙂
He also did Renae Ayris’ Miss Universe gown last year (she was 3RU).
I’m so ecstatic to be wearing a Mariana Hardwick dress though! I freaking LOVE that it’s made right there in their Brunswick emporium and that I even got to meet the woman who will actually sew my dress at my toile fitting yesterday! Once you consider alterations etc on the price of other wedding dresses (Rafaele Cuccia for example) I really don’t think their prices are too bad for a made-to-measure dress. And they have totally sold me on the made-to-measure experience, there’s nothing like having the confidence that my dress is being made to fit my body within an inch of its life, right from the beginning! lol. I also love that they’re happy to customise things like neckline and sleeves to truly make it a one-of-a-kind.
And their store is a truly glorious thing – check this out http://www.polkadotbride.com/2013/02/a-visit-to-the-divine-mariana-hardwick/
It’s like something out of a fairy tale!
And that’s Kim my dress maker! lol
