So after being scared of looking awful in wedding dresses, I bit the bullet and set up an appointment to try on dresses. Invited my bridal party plus my mom for moral support/opinions, and went dress shopping for the first time yesterday. I chose Luxe Bridal Couture in Minneapolis, which I would recommend to any plus-size gal. It was amazing. Everything was size 12-30 and it was all amazing!
All of the dresses I tried on looked fabulous, but then my fifth dress was it for me. I was trying to be realistic, telling myself I wouldn’t walk out with “THE dress”, nor did I expect to have a moment like on TV where the bride starts crying and saying “this is the one, this is the one”. After all, who finds their dress on the very first day, right?
But this baby was amazing even before I put it on. Ivory satin A-line, embroidery on the sweetheart neckline (but not under the armpits = no chafing, yay!), embroidery on the stomach and around the hipline of the dress. And the back. Buttons all down the back and then embroidery all over the bottom of the train. I thought it was too much sparkle and a little too over the top for me, but I put it on and I felt like a princess. I don’t have the highest self-esteem, and often times, as a size 28 since high school, thought I would never even get married. But here I was in this amazing dress, thinking about my amazing husband-to-be, and I had the moment. It wasn’t pretty–I cried so hard in the waiting room that mascara was running down my face and my whole group was shocked by my reaction to the dress.
Then I found out it was a sample that had been discontinued, only two sizes smaller than where I am currently (on WW and working out, so slimming down won’t be a problem), and they were going to give the dress to me for $600! It costs $1400 new. THEN! My sister, fabulous Maid/Matron of Honor that she is, brought up the fact that she heard about a 10% discount for buying it at the first appt. So all in all is cost me $540. I am still floored. It’s sitting in my closet and I keep going over and running my hands over the fabric.
Let me know what you think, Bees!!! 🙂

I think that the dress needs more crinoline than you’re wearing in the photo. I think this is supposed to be more of a small ballgown. The beading is absolutely gorgeous!

Thanks, everyone! I went to the wedding fair today in the Twin Cities, so I was starting to judge my dress against the ones I saw at the fashion show, but seeing everyone’s comments was great. I just peeped at it on the hanger in the back of my closet and am still madly in love with it. 🙂
@michiru4ever: Thanks! There actually is not ANY crinoline and I kept looking at the pictures thinking the bottom should be fuller (so you can see the front bottom embroidery better). Crinoline didn’t even occur to me until you mentioned it, so I’ll haveto get on that 😉
I *am* planning to wear a veil. The one I tried on at the shop was two layer with crystal edging and was absolutely gorgeous! There’s something about putting the veil on and over your face that just completes it. I’m probably going to wear my hair half-up, half down in curls with a crystal hairpiece and the veil pinned below that for the ceremony. My sister/MOH wants to try her hand at making a veil, so we’re waiting to see how that goes lol!
