How did you get a GEM? I’m off to BTD right now!

ETA: what a psych out LOL.  Why does *Miss America* get such VIP treatment? πŸ˜‰

ETA2: gorgeous stone…can only *imagine* the future diamond vs. amora threads….yikes!

I want an amora blue moissanite so badly it’s driving me insane.

It’s restricted to sell them in the US right now though πŸ™ JEEZ.

Does this mean I have to be patient??????! URGH! NO!!!! GIMME! πŸ˜‰ Kidding. Slightly.

So can someone answer a few questions for me about the Amora?

What makes it so special? Why are you all so anxious to get it? How is it different then a moissy?

Why are their patents restricting it’s sale?

@cirk:  Ditto! I’m a bit clueless about the Amora tbh… 😐 Is it a specially enhanced moissanite?

@cirk:  I’m not up to speed on all the details, but my basic understanding is that Amora will be close to colorless and will be available in a Hearts and Arrows cut, just like diamonds.  It will be more similar to diamond than moissanite currenty is, at still a fraction of the price of diamond.

Charles and Colvard, the original makers of moissanite, have a patent that restricts the sale of the Amora Gem until the patent runs out or is over-turned in court.  Also, production is still in the works, so it’s not available yet, even in countries without patents.

You can learn everying at the website Betterthandiamonds.

@cirk:  From amoragem.com :

Amora Gem has optical and physical properties that exceed diamond in every measure of gem beauty:

10% Greater Brilliance Than Diamond
200%+ Greater Fire than Diamond
Better color: Amora Gem is natively F color, true near colorless, which is better color than most diamonds (H – near colorless – is average for most gem diamonds)
Greater physical stability than diamond
Better cut: Amora Gem will be offered in Hearts and Arrows Rounds, less than 1% of all natural diamonds are cut to this level of optical perfection.
Better cost: Amora gem will be sold at approx $500 USD/carat. For larger sizes, Amora Gem is often 40:1 lower pricing than an equivalent cut/color mined diamond.

To further put the Amora Gem’s exceptional brilliance into perspective, the Amora gem is:

10% more brilliant than diamond
23% more brilliant than plain CZ
50% more brilliant than Sapphire

PS. Now the price is more like $600-700 USD/carat but they are still trying to work that out.

Silicon carbide gemstones (SiC) have over 200 sub-crystaline structures, all with their own particular physical and optical properties. In terms of brilliance, moissanite (grown by CREE Int’l and cut by C&C then sold as moissanite gemstones) is #4.

#1 is the Amora Gem, a truly colorless SiC gemstone BTD is the first to grow. It is not available for sale anywhere as of yet, but will be to those on their waiting list in November/December of this year, with public/retail sales starting some time in 2013 (to those in countries not covered by the patent held by C&C for SiC gemstones).

I’m anxious to own them because I LOVE sparkle and science and cannot wait to proudly wear diamond’s prettier stepsister. πŸ˜‰

I really just want the blue amora because I love color and because they don’t sell blue moissanite anymore. I would’ve gotten blue moissanite for my ering but they’d already stopped selling it.
