Well, 35 or so of our church family knew. That should have made it impossible to be kept a secret! 😉
When he was called up by our Pastor to make an announcement, I was thinking ‘?’, but quickly squelched the possibility. He went on to say that he was loved and was supported by & encouraged by our church family, and our Pastor… and me.
Then he mentioned that we’d both been getting a lot of questions from our close friends about one thing.
"So, Cate, do you want to get married?"
I was so surprised! I nearly fell across by best friends’ lap as he supported me, and later my fiance (!!!) was SO pleased – NO ONE had tipped me off. With almost a month of planning this! He was charming and sweet and the entire congregation, some of whom were first-time visitors, clapped and hooted and hollered as I sat dumbfounded.
"Is that a no?" he asked with a grin.
So I ran up to the podium and kissed him with all my heart. More clapping, etc. ensued.
It was perfect. Perfect him, perfect place, perfect people, and an exceptional time. He even got some of our not-yet-Saved friends to church that day just for that… and they enjoyed the service so much that they’re coming back! We had so many new brothers, and a new sister, during the service! Words fail me with how perfect it all was.
God is good. All the time.
Later, as I called my parents to tell them, he talked to my Dad (who joked about only saying ‘congratulations’ to the groom-to-be, which my fiance joked back with ‘do I have your permission? I mean, I’m going to anyway, but it’d be nice…), then my Mom, then my sister, each for quite some time. I am so blessed to have a man in my life, my future husband, who not only gets on with my immediate family, but has bonded with them (thanks to an illness of mine which, belive it or not, was a wonderful fire to go through: these are only some of the positive results).
I’m weeping sweet tears as I type this – I don’t know how I got to be so blessed! But there is my Father in Heaven who sent the man I am to marry to me, and that’s an amazing thing: He sent this man to meet me, for this day, and the coming days; for us to journey down the road He has set for us.
Pray for us: in our planning, spiritual – emotional – physical, and our future life together.
Sisters… this is a wonderful day to rejoice! HE IS RISEN! And I am to be a bride to one of the most talented and dear men it has even been my priveledge to meet.
