Thank you so much for posting!  I have a family member who is male to female.  it’s hard sometimes, not because i’m not supportive because I definately am, but because I worry sometimes about what her life must be like and the roadblocks she must face. It just breaks my heart for her. I know she has a problem with social anxiety because of it and because she doesn’t exactly “pass”. Honestly it’s one of my biggest reasons for wanting to become an advocate and go to school to become a counselor or therapist for teens going through this and related issues.

Kudos to you for being such a supportive sister.

Big hugs to previous posters for sharing your stories! I went to a high school that has a very strong GLBT community and I guess I never thought about what it might be like in different enviornments- I always accepted students with different sexualities and identies from me and never really questioned it. I now work in a prom dress store and actually sell a lot of gowns to men for pageant or drag shows as well as transexuals for different events. I absolutely love how happy people get when they find a dress they love, especially when I know other stores may not be as accepting or accomodating.

Everyone deserves to be happy.  Life is too short to waste time not being.  Thanks for your moving post.

Thank you for your post! I’ve been doing some reading about this because a few months ago, a good friend of mine came out to me as transgender (male to female). There’s a really good YA novel called Luna, by Julie Anne Peters, about this subject too.
