Sucks for the dog owner. Why carry around that weight when you don’t have to? Why are the boards blowing up with Michael Vick posts lately?

That poor sweet dog!  I’m grateful that there are people in this world that are selfless and caring enough to take in an abused dog and try to give it the best life possible.

@Miss Tattoo:  Maybe everyone is talking about it lately because it has been in the news so much recently due to Vick’s recent successes.  Some people find current events interesting and like to discuss them…

Oh and everyone please notice that this is posted in Beehive, not a wedding related section.  If you don’t want to read or participate then don’t!

Okay…someone fill me in please. Did Michael Vick do any of the beating and torturing? Or was he the one who financed the dog fighting ring? I’m just curious because I’ve heard people say both and I want to know what’s what.

this is soo sad! i am a dog lover and my dogs are my babies! they are so humanlike it is unbelievable… i absolutely think michael vick has some serious problems and i dont think the time he spent in jail ‘makes up for’ or ‘excuses’ what he did to those poor helpless creatures. anyone who can treat an animal like that is imo (excuse my language)- a piece of shit that i want nothing to do with. as for the dog owners, good for them for taking in those dogs and trying to help them! yes it might be considered a burden by some, but i think it takes an amazing person to deal with something like that.

just a side story, i adopted a beaten dog as well… although we dont know the details of what she went through, when i got my Reno (she was about 5 months old by the vets estimate) she would lose control of her bladder everytime someone, especially men, even walked towards her. she was so scared of us at first that she did not even want to come near us or cuddle with us.  she constantly walked around with her tail between her legs and her head hung low. it was the saddest thing i have ever seen. weve had her about 9 months now and she is blossoming and coming out of her shell. she no longer pees when someone new approaches her and she had become a huge cuddlebug. i think it really helps that we have another dog and they are the best of friends… i cant imagine what someone did to her to make her act so scared… but im sure it was horrible and people like that are not ‘heros’ they are monsters. *end mini rant*

*edited to add- even if he didnt directly participate (which i would find hard to believe) and he just financed it… shame on him! he was still involved and his money is what caused those dogs to get hurt!

@kate169:does it really matter? that’s like asking, “did he pay someone else to do the murder, or did he do it himself?”

Actually this should be posting in the Lounge. Beehive-discuss your wedding and give advice.

What I mean by sucks for the dog owner is that he can’t forgive Michael Vick. The dog owner was not personally affected by his actions, yet he carries around negative feelings towards Vick. I’m Buddhist so we are taught, “holding onto anger is like holding onto a piece of hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else. In the end, you are the one who gets burned.”

And personally, if you knew the abuse that happens to farm animals, you wouldn’t be able to even look at a piece of meat again. Same thing here. The dog owner is carrying around anger and hate because Michael Vick did a stupid thing. Again, it didn’t personally affect this person, yet he is going to carry around these negative feelings for the sake of carrying them around. Forgiveness is a very personal thing and some people can’t do it, which is fine.

To me, seems like this person just wanted their 15 minutes of fame.

Favorite quote: “im not defending vick, but im not supporting the dog lovers. it is just an animal. i dont hear anyone shedding tears for the multitude of livestock that are slaughtered on a daily basis. the only reason people adore dogs is because they are domesticated and they dont taste very good.”

And if you knew about the level of abuse of farm animals, you wouldn’t look at a piece of meat the same. Again, what’s the difference? An animal is an animal right? Or are we just protecting the cute ones?

🙁 so sad. I’m so glad though that Mel has his new life – it will take time, but someday he will learn that not all people are POS.

@kitzy:  I don’t really know much about dog fighting at all. Or even the Michael Vick thing. Just curious as to what the real story is. I hate that anyone would mistreat animals.

@kitzy: only because some people think that he didn’t really know what was going on backstage, and that he financed it without understanding the torture these dogs were going through.I agree with you though, he’s garbage to me.

I also wanted to add I think it’s weird that so many people are so outraged by dog fighting when I’m betting a lot of the outraged people are meat eaters.
