A few people asked me to come back and update, so here it is…
I gave my girlfriend three gifts (and the timing ended up being different than any of my plans, for reasons I won’t get into here because they don’t matter — it ended up being perfect the way it was)…
The first gift was a piece of rose quartz in the shape of a heart, and it was gifted inside a small box with a unicorn painted on the outside (because she’s my unicorn — I didn’t even think she existed until I actually met her). I gave that to her on a Thursday, and she loved it (thinking it was just a random gift).
The second gift was a piece of moldavite. This piece of greenish looking glass was formed when a meteorite slammed into the earth 15 million years ago… that impact heated everything up, and moldavite rained down (which is a combination of “star stuff” and “earth stuff”). I gave this to her because she and I have a thing about stars, and it was my way of giving her a star.
I gave this second gift to her on a Saturday morning on our way to breakfast. Going out to bfast is one of her favorite things to do, so I took her to a place that overlooks a lake. She loves water too.
After breakfast we went to a state park that has several lakes. I’d never been there, so I was just randomly searching for a good place to propose while we were walking. In hindsight she said she noticed I was carrying my purse (on a hike, which is weird — she left hers in the car) … but she didn’t think much of it.
Finally I found a spot… a quiet spot under the oak trees with a view right over the lake. An eagle swooped down and grabbed something out of the water. Then three small planes flew over in formation. We were enjoying watching all of this and taking in the view when I finally said, “There’s another reason I brought you here…”
She had NO clue a proposal was coming until that exact moment. I told her the reasons I loved her, I dropped to my knee, I asked if she’d marry me…
She said yes.
Fortunately, I had the foresight to bring tissues, because there were a lot of tears. 🙂
And then she opened the third gift (another “rock”) — this time a very sparkly ring. (She is still staring at it, doing the “finger wiggle” daily!)
She said yes, Bees, she said YES!!
