To be honest I think it depends on how many guests you’re going to have. Originally I wanted to have our wedding at Kortright but when I went to look at it, it seemed really small for all of the things that needed to be there (bar, DJ, etc.). I also realized that my guests would probably get eaten by bugs unless I wanted to keep the room closed, which I didn’t. But I did have a pretty great vision for it so I’m kind of sad we didn’t get to do it there but it’s practically impossible with 120+ people.

Maybe ask both places what is the max number of brides they will allow on the property. Not only the brides having a reception, but other brides coming for photo’s only or ceremony service only.

I think it depends on how quickly you want to pull the wedding together! If you’re able to make it work by September/October, then go for it! If you’d like more time to plan, find your vendors, etc. then maybe Kortright is the better choice. I’ve been to dinner at Ancaster Mill and been to a wedding at Kortright, and they are both gorgeous. The bride had a little basket with bug-spray set up, as the mosquitos did get a bit annoying in the late afternoon, but it didn’t bother any of the guests, we had a great time!

I went to a wedding at the Ancaster Mill last year and was…. unimpressed.

They had multiple weddings booked and clearly could NOT handle the volume of weddings at the venue. The cocktail area was SUPER small for as many guests as there were and they kept coming directly through the guests with trays of champagne flutes for ANOTHER wedding. I was just waiting for one of them to fall and break all over the place.

It took FIVE HOURS for dinner. FIVE. Unacceptable in my mind.

I would never ever recommend this venue after that experience as a guest. Just my two cents! Hope this helps!

I have my wedding at the ancaster mill in 3 weeks today. Tbh I have never found one person ever who has had anything bad to say about it. We are having a day time wedding. The reviews online, previous brides and guests who have been there have raved about it. They have been amazing To work with!

we had our wedding at Ancaster Mill on Sep 20th 2013 and I can highly recommend it for a smaller wedding (we only had 50 guests). All our guests complimented us on the venue and the food, we really couldn’t fault it. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions and I’ll be happy to answer them. 🙂

The kortright centre I thought always looked pretty for an outdoor ceremony…

What about black creek pionner village? I went to a wedding there and it was really nice. Also, since you are looking at ancaster mill in hamilton have a look at balls falls in hamilton area as well..more DIY but a lot cheaper! We were looking at it intially!

Whatever you choose, your wedding will be perfect:)

Hi there!

I am an Ontario wedding photographer and I have photographed at both of these venues. I personally love Kortright the most because the forest ceremony area is just amazing! It’s great for photos; very unique too! The Ancaster Mill is amazing as well with it’s pretty decor, fireplaces and wood accents (and the waterfall outside!) but I don’t think the layout is great. One wedding I photographed there, for their indoor ceremony room, it was difficult to photograph because there are large posts throughout the room that splits the aisle space in half so I literally had to maneuever around posts to get the photos I needed.

For me, Kortright wins if you would like a more nature-themed, outdoor wedding and if you would like something indoors that looks a little more refined and fancier, then I’d choose Ancaster Mill!

Hope that helps! 🙂 Good luck with your wedding!

In case it helps, here are photos of a recent outdoor wedding at Ancaster Mill: http://www.olivephotography.ca/2015/07/25/5102/
It’s lovely there, though I have yet to visit Kortright Centre. Just did a Google search about it and it looks pretty incredible!

  • Wedding: September 2016 - Cambridge Mill

jm2015:  I am getting married at The Cambridge Mill which is run but the same people as Ancaster Mill. We checked out the Ancaster Mill, the grounds were quite beautiful but we were underwhelmed but the rooms. There is also many steps to get everywhere which isn’t ideal for Grandparents. However I have not heard bad things. Go with your heart 🙂
