Firstly your venue looks gorgeous. I hear ya on the fact that a formal wedding would better suit long Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses but from the pics you’ve posted I like the shorter one.

ooooh, I love that long black dress.  Verrrrry gorgeous!!  If its black tie, then yes, short dresses really won’t be formal enough IMO.  The short dress is gorgeous, but I’m afraid its not formal enough (agree with you)

Is it possible to remove the center studs on the black dress and put the rhinestones you want instead?  A little DIY won’t hurt and you can get the BMs involved with that.  🙂

It may also be possible to really dress up the short dress for pizazz??? (thick blingy necklack, earrings, jewelry, hair, shoes, etc) I’m not sure if that will work, may be a good poll to post to get some opinions from bees.  Good luck and let us know what you choose!

Hm, I agree with the PPs.  The longer dress would work for the wedding, but I was leaning towards the shorter dress.  But I think it’s because of the color.

I was in the same position as you and finally decided on long dresses. I think long dresses make it look a little more formal, which is what it sounds like you are going for. But I do like the Bridesmaid or Best Man dress you already picked out. I finally picked mine this weekend and it’s impression 1354, the long one on the right. It will be in navy. I have 8 BM’s all different body types and height and this dress looked great on all of them! Plus, it’s chiffon so it will hopefully be a little cooler for them to wear in July.

I thik that short dresses can actually work at a black tie wedding if styled properly. You could probably find a similar style to that short dress at a longer length though, have you tried Priscilla of Boston?

My bridesmaids are wearing a long strapless similar to the ones posted. It is from David’s Bridal but is a different material than a lot of their other dresses. It is a “hammered” textured silk. It looks really cool in person.

I went with long because my wedding is pretty formal…but also because my BMs are all different sizes. I felt like short dresses would hit them at different places and wouldn’t be as flattering for girls who are uncomfortable showing their legs.

Also, one of my BMs is a tomboy and was thrilled to learn that a long dress would mean she didn’t have to wear heels!

Definitely long but Bill Levkoff has some really really cute long dresses.  Have you looked at them in person?

Here’s my bridesmaid dress! We did them in champagne and black, but the sample that we tried on was a GORGEOUS shimmery latte color.

@Hillzie: Ohh, thank you so much! It was by Alyce designs, and was really affordable, I think it was $119?  I might have a better picture.
