You have insurance so your travel agent will be responsible for re-booking the flights for you. That is their job – so *try* not to worry about it too much 🙂 Your honeymoon will be fantastic!

Aww, how rubbish.  As much as it’s a giant PITA, try and stay pretty chilled about it.  With the insurance and having booked through an agent, you should be able to rearrange fairly easily.

Take a few minutes now to read the insurance policy you purchased and to know inside and out what it does and doesn’t cover.  Some of those policies are so heavily restrictive that you can only make a claim in very specific circumstances.

This happened to us twice, the last time about 6 weeks before the wedding.  We didn’t use a travel agent.  When the airline called to tell us they no longer fly to Costa Rica on that day, I said we couldn’t change our dates and they booked us on United instead.

Uhhg that sucks… Lucky you have the insurance, hopefully it will get taken care of quickly without stressing you out too much.

for everyone else  – avoid American right now!!  They’re having labor union issues -so their pilots are staging “sick-outs”, which is causing a lot of cancelled flights. Sometimes even if the pilot for YOUR particular flight has shown up, the flight will still be cancelled because the plane didn’t get to where it needed to be.

Ugh.  I’m so sorry that happened.  It sounds like your insurance should take care of you, though.  Hopefully.

My mom booked me and Darling Husband American flights to go visit her and my dad for Christmas.  I’m really worried about everything getting cancelled.  I hated American Airlines with a passion because of some previous terrible experiences with them, and now we’re flying with them during peak season during problems with the union…  It’s going to be awful.

I call BS on American Airlines!  So many of the flights in and out of St. Lucia get cancelled!  Trust me, I experienced it (well with Delta).  There are only like 2 flights into St. Lucia from the US daily, one through Miami (AA) and one through Atlanta (Delta).  They both leave around 10:00am, so getting from your destination city to Atlanta/Miami is hard, and only happens if there are no delays. If your travel dates aren’t flexible, then get on the phone and have AA book you on the Delta flight, otherwise you’ll have to wait a day or two.  The flights book up really fast.  Its terrible.

The good thing about this is at least you have some time to make alternate arrangements.  Delta cancelled our morning flight to Atlanta a couple of hours before takeoff, and there were no flights that would get us to Atlanta in time to catch our connecting flight to St. Lucia.  After I threw a fit and cried, they were able to get us on a flight to Atlanta from an airport an hour away; so we had to drive across town at 4am to catch our 6:00am flight.  Not a good way to start the honeymoon.

Also, I would keep an eye on your returning flights as well.  I heard one couple talking about how their middle of the week flight was cancelled.  They had to come back early and spend the rest of their honeymoon in Miami or Atlanta, I can’t remember which.

Ugh hun.  Good luck.  I don’t wish this on anyone 🙁

Oh god, this is my fear. We have an AA flight to one of the islands in a few weeks and although we have trip insurance, I am terrified because there just aren’t many flights.

Where can I check to see if it’s been canceled?

And to the OP-good luck! I hope everything works out with your trip.

Boo AA!! At least they were decent enough to give you a months notice, better than it happening a week before. I know you are working with a TA but do your homework and find other flight options on your own just as a backup. Best of luck keep us updated!

Oh no! But with trip insurance, you should be fine.  (And Hi!  I’m right over the bridge from you!  We live in Waterford.)
