- Wedding: August 2012
I’ve been engaged since May 11th, but am just now getting some plans set in stone. After checking out a winery that my older sister vetoed for her wedding, we knew that was our spot! Right on the border of WI and MN, it’s pretty central for both families (about an hour from each), and also very pretty! We are planning for August 4, 2012, and since the winery is also an apple orchard, there will be lots of ripe apples in the background.
This past weekend, my mom and I and my cousin Maria (bridesmaid) went dress shopping. And though the woman helping me try on dresses was slightly rude and all of the dresses were out of my price range and really not at all what I want, we had some good luck as we were leaving. Since the proposal, I’ve been searching everywhere for my dream dress (check it out below), but it seems that nobody has it to try on. I have no desire to buy a dress only to get it, be stuck with it, and discover that it looks completely awful on me. Anyway, so my mom went to use the restroom as we left, and I decided to ask the lady at the desk (not the rude one) about their policy on ordering dresses (if it comes and I don’t like it, is there any way to put that money towards a different dress?), and while her answer was no, she told me she would do something for me that she’d never done before. She is going to order the dress “for the store,” in my size, and in ivory (the color I want), and if it comes and I don’t like it after trying it on, she’ll keep it for the store and I will have no commitment at all to the dress or to that store. Anyway, I’m thrilled! So if I hate it, I’m not stuck with it, which is awesome. Even though I know I’ll love it! The dress pictured below is the one.
Anyway! Our wedding “theme,” or more like idea to run with, is the Flower Fairies. There are flower fairy books, we had them when I was little, and I think it’s a nice magical idea to start off the wedding plans with. We bought fabric for the bridesmaid dresses this weekend (my mom’s going to sew them). I’m thinking a similar style as my dress, but about knee-length and yellow, with a mango-colored shimmery organza layer over the skirt.
Millions of ideas are rolling around in my brain right now, and I’m glad to have somewhere to talk about them!
