many times the waiting period can be waived for special circumstances (like traveling) I would call a city clerk in the area and see if it might be possible. For us (married in MA) we would have had to pay a $50 rush fee or something for same day licenses…. maybe this is possible for you?

 

(the other easier thing to do would be to have your “wedding” in MI then get the paperwork when you get back or before you leave in TX but I can understand not wanting to do that after such a long wait)

Re: dealing with the elopment, his family and yours, can you just take them out to dinner in their respective home towns? That’s what we’re doing (on a slightly larger scale, but same general idea, because our grandparents are also unable to travel). It doesn’t have to be someplace crazy nice, a fun family style place like Bucca Di Beppo’s is tasty and cheap.
