So, my bank so lovingly accepted my direct deposit I set up to go into my checking. Then I wrote a check. Then when I checked my account online, there was no account. They closed it to spite me.
Sounds silly, right? A bank does not operate on spite, except MINE DOES! When Darling Husband called they told him he doesn’t know how to manage money and berated him. They accepted the direct deposit, and then transfered it into savings and closed the account without notifying us. When? We ask. They won’t say. I think that after my deposit, a check came in for withdrawal, they got mad and closed my account.
It sounds so illogical and wrong. I just don’t think a bank should operate this way (?) Now I have a check that will bounce on a closed account (something I would never do!!!!!). Pity pity. Evil bank.
And that I just needed to say!

That makes no sense. I’m angry on your behalf too. I don’t understand how they can do that. :/

What the heck? That…sounds like they made a mistake? What bank?

Is that even legal… Moving your money around like that?

I’d call the person you wrote the check to, tell them you’ll need to issue a new check because of an error on the bank’s side. Then, I’d go withdraw all of your $ at that bank and find a new one pronto. That seems really shifty.

This has been such a bad experience, I might take a bank break. I am pretty much dumbfounded.

Which bank is it? I’m looking for a new one, but I don’t want to use whichever one you’ve used!

@cbee: I don’t know if you have credit unions near you, but that’s what I use…mine is awesome….if a cheque you wrote comes in and for whatever reason you don’t have enough in your checking account they check all of your other accounts with them to get the money so the check does not bounce….there’s a small fee, but better than ruining credit and better than having to pay all sorts of fees for a bounced check (i’ve had this done a few times, just stupidly didn’t transfer the money or forgot to deposit a check)….
That might be an option….i personally don’t like big banks and have had nothing but problems with them….

That’s seriously messed up. Who do you bank with? O.o

What bank is this?
I would go there in person and talk to a person in charge.

Seriously, get as far away from this bank as possible. Take all the money out of savings, tell them they are unprofessional and you won’t do business with them and never look back!
As for the person you wrote the check to, call them and apologize for the bank error and write them a new check as soon as possible.

Which bank were you using? We just started using Summit Credit Union and it’s been very, very easy so far and we had asked several others in the area before joining – and they recommended them to us.
Darling Husband has co-workers who love the UW Credit Union as well.
Is there any type of oversight organization that this could be reported to? (general question to the posters here, not just the OP). It seems like this is the type of behavior that future customers should be warned about!
