@MsGinkgo:  I think it’s Polio rates that went up two years ago for the first time since the vaccine was released. Scientists were COMPLETELY baffled.

I can’t imagine not vaccinating my kids! It’s right up there with letting them play in lead paint or saying “Carseats? Seatbelts? That’s just a company trying to make money off of me!”

@sailor_girl:  It’s unfortunate that uneducated folks can endanger everyone else. Some days I don’t want to be a part of society.

@Miss Damask:  Yeah, don’t let her or her family near yours until your baby has had his/her shots. Feel free to be as blunt and bitchy as needed, this is totally a justifiable cause to bring your inner mama-bear out.

I saw on the news when I was at the gym last week that there is a pertussis outbreak in Texas and an infant died already. That made me rageful enough to kick it up a notch on the elliptical.

@MrsPanda99:  It doesn’t mean the vaccines are mandatory though.  People can attend school without being vaccinated for various reasons.

@MsGinkgo:  Exactly! I just went to Kenya and had to update my polio vaccine because it’s still an issue there.

This whole issue infuriates me. If you want to be irresponsible with your kids fine, but quarantine yourselves then.

my father and his two siblings were not vaccinated due to religious reasons. they ended up fine, but they all had the measles and the mumps as kids.

i, personally, will vaccinate.

My children were both vaccinated. They are fine, rarely get sick..from anything.  But I got it done because i grew up getting vaccinated, it was something parents just did with their kids.  You don’t vaccinate, then these diseases make their way back around! jmo!!  that article is proof to me.

ETA:  My children are required to have all vaccines up to date before school starts each year.  People not getting their kids vaccinated, i hope they are home schooling their children. If not, then how are the school systems allowing these children in public schools if they have rules about vaccines having to be up to date? I have to give them a copy of my kids vaccines at the beginning of each school year for their records.

@wideeyes:  I actually did a huge research project and presentation on Andrew Wakefield and his claim that vaccines cause Autism in graduate school. I can’t believe so many people still fall for it.

@skippydarling:  Right!? I’m so tired of under educated people making decisions to not vaccinate their children. They are putting newborns, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems at a MAJOR risk!! It’s so stupid. We nearly have these debilitating life threatening illnesses completely abolished and then Jenni McCarthy (who is famous for farting on tv) says they’re bad so we’re just going to take her word for it!? Yes I know vaccines contain nasty adjuvents like mercury, but the levels are so low that people shouldn’t even raise an eyebrow at this. I seriously feel like back handing anyone that says “vaccines are bad.. vaccines cause autism” Um Jenni McCarthy’s kid doesn’t even have autism. Would you rather your kid die of polio because you listened to someone that got famous for farting? Reality check here!!! Jeeeez Totally grinds my gears. I’ve just started to unfriend those people!

@rickhurst35:  What makes it right for a child to go to school if they had the vaccine, but didn’t produce enough antibodies, but another to be excluded because they have life threatening reactions so don’t get vaccinated?

There’s a lot of misinformation out there about vaccines. I don’t really care if an adult wants to give themselves the flu or something, but it’s scary when they’re in charge of a defenseless child.

@AB Bride:  I think that’s the whole point of herd immunity… because some people have bad reactions or are non-responders to certain vaccines.  If everyone else around them are protected, then there is less of a chance that a major outbreak would occur.  The point is that EVERYONE who can safely be vaccinated should be, to help protect those who cannot.

I DESPISE people who don’t vaccinate their children (with the exception being children that have a serious medical reason for why they cannot be vaccinated). That is all I will say about it.

I used to be FB friends with a girl who refused to vaccinate her kid–“We worked to hard to get him into this world to chance that he might become autistic!” But you’re willing to chance that he might die of other horrible diseases?!

Same girl whose kid was diagnosed failure to thrive because she went against doctor’s orders to supplement her breastmilk with formula–“All he needs is breastmilk! That’s the natural way!” as her kid went from 80th %ile to 70th to 60th…

I had to defriend her, because I was legitimately too upset to watch her horrible parenting continue to play out. I am all for not judging how other people parent, as long as it’s not endangering their child’s life. Fuck.
