I hope I’m not horrible but I love the way you wrote this, it made me snicker…

and kudos to you for including them in spite of this. I have secular friends with deeply religious families who are not as brave.

You know, I’m atheist as all get-out, but I never mind being blessed 🙂 You know what their intentions are, so it’s sweet. Then again, I haven’t had the full-on cult-esque blessing yet, lol! In public too! I’d be embarrassed too. Still sweet though!

I’m not a fan of being “blessed” but this occurance seems especially offensive since it was in public and people touched you. Not cool. I would tell him that’s not acceptable. You respect their beliefs, they should respect yours.

Are you an out atheist in your family, or do they just assume that you’re not as religious as everybody else? It is kind of amazing to me that people just *assume* you’re of a particular religious view, but within a family I guess I can kind of see it. It just never crosses their minds that anyone would stop off the beaten path?

You handled the hands-laying-on-thing tactfully. You can crap up at that one for years to come. I was smiling. Embarrassing and odd, to me, but lulzworthy no less.

I found this really hilarious.

My grandmother used to call my mom and cry to her because I wouldn’t talk to her about Jesus. Smh.

@geekspice:  LOL

I don’t mind being blessed by anyone, as long as it’s not snarky (which I’ve gotten before). However, that would be really weird. A whole restaurant? People touching me? Ick.

@CookieCreamCakes:  Ditto. Fiance and I are Agnostic/Atheist and our families just assume that we aren’t *as* religious as they are. We never go to church and always decline going when invited, we don’t participate in prayer/blessing, we don’t talk about God/Jesus/etc.–other than the fact that they are Christian, there’s no evidence that we are, yet? they still assume.

Oh God. I would have been terrified.

Take my advice… don’t tell them anything about the wedding, or they will start forcing you to have a super religious ceremony. Keep it all quiet…. covert op!
