So I found out today (I’m 35 weeks) that I will need to have an intravenous iron infusion next week, due to the fact that despite adjusting diet and taking daily supplements, my iron levels continue to plummet. I have been having weird symptoms that I only today found out are related to anemia: craving the smell of certain cleaners, cravings to chew ice, extreme exhaustion, heart palpitations, and on/off sore tongue. The doctor (who is normally very non-alarmist) is concerned that if I go into labor with my levels this low, I will be at risk for needing a blood transfusion. I do not want to worry about bleeding to death during labor!!!! Yikes! So, anyway, I am a little worried about this idea– the IV infusions— and wondered if anyone else had gone through this as well. Any experiences you can share? Thanks ladies!
