That happened to me. Fortunately (?) I know who it is – it’s the couples 30-year old daughter. It’s ridiculous. Obviously, if we were going to invite her, we would have sent her her own invitation.

Here’s a good one for you. Five of my distant relatives from Europe showed up to my brother’s wedding in the US completely unannounced and uninvited. We don’t even know how they found out where or when the wedding was. They just showed up at the door. From Europe.

We had FIVE rsvp cards come in the week before the wedding – fortunately I thought to overestimate and then weather on the day of the event left everyone with plenty of food and drink.

Had this happen to us before we sent out invites! My Future Hubby called a family friend of his to get his address and the when the friend asked why he needed it and we said for our wedding inviteshe told us he would tell his sons about it so they could come as well. HMMM..NO MY Fiance Has never done a single thing with his sons! And they are adults who don’t live with him!

Oh and the kicker we ran into his sons two weeks before this they totaly blew us off and didn’t even say hi to me when my Fiance told them who I was, they just acted like I wasn’t standing there!

this is the exact reason why on my response cards (which my graphic designer friend so graciously offerend to make for us) will say:

Mr. John Smith     will attend___     will not attend___

Mrs. Mary Smith   will attend___     will not attend___

Adult Reception

i had her leave a wide blank space where the invitees name goes and i will just print out thin clear labels with everyones name on it and put them on.

my 2 cousins had to deal with this crap and i will do whatever it takes to be clear about who is invited.  no one in my wedding party or any of my relatives should have to call someone and tell them they shouldn’t have invited someone or wrote someone elses name as an extra in the invitation.  farking ridiculous

I’m going to play devil’s advocate here…you said it’s an older couple…how old?  Because if they are A LOT older, like 70s or 80s, maybe one of them needs some kind of nurse for care and couldn’t get through the wedding without her?  Who knows…they could have explained, but I’m just trying to come up with reasons.

It happens a lot more than you’d think….

I’ve had almost 5 guests do this. Super frustrating. Just tell them you have only reserved “X” number of seats for them, and unfortunetly cant add any more at this point.

I feel ya! Its way RUDE.

But good to know, we’re not alone!

@karatechick27:  I thought of that too.  If not a nurse, possible a driver?

I got one like this!   I sent an invite to “ASHLEY and GUEST” and got her rsvp back that said “Ashley and friendS” are coming.   I have no idea how many “friendS” that means, no idea who these “friendS” are or what their names are!!   I have sent an email to her asking about the rsvp and have gotten no response!   I don’t know what to do either!!

I wouldn’t fly off the handle.  Most people do not know wedding etiquette.  And many RSVP cards give guests the very option of penciling in their desired reply number.  As for the guest that said, add this person to your list, she sucks and I hope she stays home.  Same goes for homegirl who won’t go anywhere without Lil Marty.
