OMG. This why the American education system sucks. I bet her child goes home and watches MTV.

I think it’s fair enough that parents have a say in what their children read/watch in school at that age.

I’ve never read it so I was unaware until today that it contained such a graphic passage. Personally I think it’s ok for 12 year olds but it’s kind of borderline. I know if I read a passage like that about penises at that age (in fact I’m fairly sure I did!), I’d have been laughing at it immaturely rather than appreciating it for any literary value.

So a slight overreaction but not newsworthy.

I remember reading that particular passage  in 9th grade! I was vaguely unconfortable with it in a ” what the hell are we reading” kinda of way, but I seem to remember laughing about it with my firends.  No harm done, except that i did actually read the whole book.  we wanted to see what elce she would talk about.

That’s one of those books that every person should read.  I’d rather have my child read about a vagina (which is NOT a bad word!!!) than listen to most of the crap that’s on the radio these days.

This is from a friend’s facebook, I couldn’t agree more.

“And here I always thoughtr the “uncomfortable” part of the story was the bit where the nazis spent years trying to murder the poor girl and her entire family. Overprotective mothers of America, PLEASE get your frigging priorities straight already. We cannot nerf the world and bowdlerize every piece of history and listerature to make existence as we understand it “comfortable” for your little snowflakes. Nor should we be expected to do so.”

And btw, the bit that is “offensive” is essentially summarized as “I checked out my bits today. There’s more to them than I originally realized.”

This makes me so angry WTF its Anne Frank.  Why are people so wrapped up in hiding sex from their kids.  I read this book when I was 10 and I do not remember that part existing/phasing me in the slightest, however I think its one of the most important things I’ve read.  She’s brilliant.  Shame on HuffPost for making this news.  Remember when they actually used to write decent articles about political issues instead of idiots?

@MrsEdamame:  my sister is in 8th grade and her class just read the book. In fact, they even had to act it out for fun. My sister was obesessing over the fact Anne Frank wrote about her period in her journal and I had to step in and tell her most women do this. Other than that, she never gasped at the scenes that could be considered inappropriate.  Maybe it’s because the books she reads are teen romance and she’s desensitized… Lol.

Anyways, books are meant to educate and Anne Frank’s diary is one of those historical pieces that needs to be discussed In the classroom. Pornography? Really? Much worse out there in school libraries than this!!

@paula1248:  couldn’t disagree more.  Schools are to educate children and open their minds, not to keep them shut and ingnorant like their parent’s.

@HisMoon:  THIS.

I know I read this book with my class in elementary school, so I would have been in grade 8 at the most.

Kids at that age are having sex (as terrible as that is to think about)… I don’t think they are going to be traumatized from reading the word vagina.

“There are little folds of skin all over the place, you can hardly find it. The little hole underneath is so terribly small that I simply can’t imagine how a man can get in there, let alone how a whole baby can get out!”

This is the passage really?  OMG,  People are fuckin stupid.  This passage is hilarious cause it’s true!

I read push in high school if you wanna try to make a case about inapporpriat, I’d start there.
