My SO and I are getting engaged…when? not exactly sure. He went to buy the ring he wanted and the clerk told him not to get anything with small diamonds because of the type of work I do, so then he told me to go back and choose one, I did and now he has to pick it up. We are farmers so that will not be happening until after harvest season now.
Anyway, we have discussed dates and I pretty much had my heart set on September 5, 2015. Obviously I haven’t done any planning yet because we aren’t officially engaged, but knowing it was coming I decided on that date.
Well, now my SO’s cousin got engaged last week and yesterday they announced their wedding date: September 5, 2015!!!!!!
I am not mad at them, I don’t feel jealous or anything, I am just extremely disappointed. We can still get married that summer, everyone would still be able to come to our wedding (everyone lives near us, his cousin lives out of state) but it was just a blow.
Now I don’t know what I want to do. I am a teacher so it has to be over the summer. My SO’s first wedding was in July, so it won’t be in July. I wanted to wait through most of August because of hay season…ugh. My mom is the only person who I told that we were thinking of that day, so it is no ones fault, it is just annoying!!!
thanks for letting me rant 🙂

I’m sorry. That sucks. The same thing ng happened to my friend too. Her date was October 11th 2012. She liked the 10 11 12 thing. Was there anything significant about that date or its just a date you liked?

MrsVC2015: That sucks! Maybe you should discuss with your SO about starting planning before the ring comes in. You can get engaged without a ring and claim another date now, so this doesn’t happen again.

We ended up booking the venue for our date 3 weeks ago because they were already low on Saturdays for next September, and he still hasn’t formally proposed. We knew we wanted the venue for 9/19 since August, but I told him we’ll book it after he proposes. Well, I didn’t know it would take so long to get a ring. In early October, I called the venue to check on availability, and 9/19 was temporarily reserved for a couple who was coming by to look at the venue. So I temporarily reserved the last Saturday available, 9/26, but if 9/19 became available we wanted to grab the date. Luckily, we got our first choice, but it was a close one!
It might be a good idea to do this depending on where you’re looking. Many places are already filling up for Saturdays next year. The longer you wait, the more likely it will be that you don’t get the exact date you want.
Best of luck!

VintageGinger: I just have a thing with numbers…I hate even numbers, so the thought of having 9/5/15 was great to me. We can’t do any later in Sept because it is so busy at school. It just seemed like the best date!!!
We are having the wedding on our property, so really we could plan it in a few months, which is why we really were in no hurry to get engaged.
